eating habits

Did any elites ever ate a human.

Most of them viewed Humans as a heretical blight on the galaxy throughout much of the Great War so chances are that’s going to be a no. In the off chance that they’d need to survive and our bodies were the only thing that could sustain them then I’m sure a reasonable Sangheili would take a chomp out of our butts.

I don’t think the elites ever ate humans. But I think that Brutes and jackals do.

and grunts

Brutes are cannibalistic in nature or something like that. And, if i remember correctly, there are a couple of lines said by brutes that reference eating humans, but maybe they are from the IWHBYD skull, i don’t remember right now.

No, it’s directly implied in the games.

“Those apes ain’t much for mercy, Chief. We both know what they do to prisoners.” – Johnson

And there’s a couple of lines of dialogue which reference their desire to eat enemies.

I doubt the Elites would desire to eat humans, even if they’re established to eat meat in the lore. If they’re superstitious enough to distrust doctor’s for “spilling their blood,” I doubt they’ll want to eat a race which they’ve seen as an ultimate evil and as an affront to their religion. Brutes, Jackals and Grunts may be more inclined to do so. The Jackals and Brutes are predatory – and their culture reflects it. However, I think the Grunts are more opportunistic given the environment of their home-world.

I don’t think are cannibals. That implies that they eat eachother.

They are carnivores for sure, and I am certain they would eat Grunts, Sangheili, Jackals, Humans or anyone else. However, most higher species in the right frame of mind are hardwired to not eat their own species, as it goes against survival instinct.

That being said, just because an Alien eats Humans, does not mean said Aliens are bad.

I already know every others races eat humans but I though elites were to ( honorous) to do so.
Now, do marines eat aliens when there is not enough chicken?

Holy crap. That’s a question worthy of a horror movie. O.o

They probably do. Imagine how tasty a brute burger would be.

Sangheili don’t eat their foes. They just don’t do it since they consider it barbaric. It’s not for religious reasons or because some (not freaking all, #brokencircle) Sangheili think that the spilling of one’s blood is dishonourable.
Jiralhanae on the other hand have been witnessed eating humans, Sangheili and Unggoy.
Kig-Yar and Unggoy have been witnessed eating humans but I do not remember if they were starving before eating them.

Well, some humans have eaten other humans but it isn’t the norm. So it probably has happened at one point.

I don’t think so. What do elites eat anyway?

I’ve got a better question. How do they eat? You’d think ingesting substances without a bottom jaw would be hard, wouldn’t you?

That’s exactly what I’ve been wondering for a while. I just think of crabs or lobsters maybe some type of beetles idk o and or spiders and possibly some insects.

I think I see what you’re saying. There are a ton of organisms on the planet with alternative dental ware. However most of these alternatives are comprised of:

  • Sucking tubey gross things. See Flies, Mosquitoes, Lampreys, maybe Engineers. These usually involve secreting some kind of compound to break up the food to be easily sucked up the straw, or just sucking till you’ve extracted all the nutrition.
  • Mandibles that point downard against the pull of gravity. These function as giant teeth and delivery mechanisms into the Pharynx. It seems like Sangheili could utilize this, however their mandibles point out - and are lined with teeth. I looks like having no bottom jaw means there is nothing to keep the food in the mouth, they’ve got four of the things, so that would complicate chewing, and the way the mandibles are, they can’t really force the stuff in there. Either Sangheili can close their mouth and get really good at moving each of the mandibles individually to break up the food particles, or they just bury their head in their food and hope for the best. Or they starve. :/Idk. I’m kind of surprised they can form advanced speech at all.

Judging by this picture, Elites don’t have molars; all their teeth are sharp, excellent for grabbing/cutting but wholly unsuited for grinding work. This, plus the absence of a lower jaw, suggests Sangheili swallow their food whole. The mandibles are designed to tear off chunks of flesh and push them straight into the gullet. Presumably chewing work is carried out by some later component of their digestive system; either that or they have ridiculously strong stomach acid.

I can get behind that.

No. They may eat fish (look at their mouth) but… humans? No way.
(Maybe brutes do :P)

Some have molars and can eat grain. Eg. Gek Lhar, Parg Vol, Jul 'Mdama…
