Easy way to include Cortana & SGT MAJ Johnson

As everybody knows, Sergeant Major Johnson officially died in Halo 3 by 343 Guilty Spark. However, if you recall back in the Legendary ending of Halo: Combat Evolved, it clearly shows Johnson died next to the Maw… Yet came back in Halo 2. He described his survival simply as “classified.” He could easily come back in Halo 5, claiming his survival is, once again, “classified.” He was one of the best characters in the Halo universe and should be brought back. Another Halo game with a very well known character like him would help bring back old memories of the older awesome Halos.

Bringing back Cortana should be fairly easy. Master Chief should be able to acquire what’s left of Cortana’s chip and rendezvous with Doctor Halsey to repair her. Or an interesting way would be for Johnson to find Cortana’s chip, meet up with Halsey to repair her, and Chief find out about it around half way in the game.

There are a lot of ways to bring back these two great characters. You can keep Halsey, Lasky, Palmer, Thorne, DeMarco, Roland, Miller, and any other people in the game but if those are the only protagonists in the game (other than Master Chief) and there are no original characters, All you would be doing is dragging the Halo trilogy farther and farther away.

Halo CE’s Legendary Ending was never considered canon, and Johnson’s survival was explain in the book Halo: First Strike.

The entire terminal that chief plugged cortana’s chip into disintegrated into a pile of molten glowing metal dust.

Nah, Chief didn’t have a ‘final conversation’ with Johnson in CE like he did in 3.

Doesn’t mean I don’t miss him, he’s still my favorite character of the series.

I would want a Spartan-IV with Johnson’s VA for old times sakes though…

The Legendary ending of Halo 1 is not canon. Johnson’s survival at the end of Halo 1 as well as how John and Cortana got back to Earth is explained in Halo: First Strike.

I’m curious, can anyone explain what happened at the end of First Strike?

I tried two Nylund novels and they weren’t my style. Although I readily admit I loved his writing of Halsey’s Journal.

Its not the end that details how they got back to Earth, the entire novel is the story of how they got back.

I would rather leave them death.
Bringing back a character only cheapens his death and the whole story in general.

I figure the only way to bring Johnson back would be:
He actually didn’t die on 04b but went into a coma and when the Halo was fired he was composed into an AI IF the Halo rings are just big composers.
Cortana:
Some Storm Elites find the remains of the Ark and miraculously find a part of High Charity that had one of Cortana’s fragments in it. Or Halsey sacrifices herself to make another Cortana.

Like I said in a previous Johnson thread;

> He should come back as a monitor that wears a Sergeant cap and smokes a hovering cigar.

> I would rather leave them death.
> Bringing back a character only cheapens his death and the whole story in general.

I agree with this. Plus, I think Johnson should be left to rest in peace out of sensitivity and respect for the character; as we clearly saw, it really began to tire him throughout Halo 3. After having throughout throughout the entire human-covenant war, I think he’s seen enough fighting and warfare for a lifetime.

no just… no

Much as I love both Johnson and Cortana, they need to stay dead.

As everybody knows, Sergeant Major Johnson officially died in Halo 3 by 343 Guilty Spark. And that’s about all their is to it. The legendary ending of Halo: Combat Evolved was clearly never considered canon, hence he came back in Halo 2. He could never come back. He was one of the best characters in the Halo universe and should not be brought back, doing so would destroy Bungie’s work.

Bringing back Cortana would be quite difficult. Even Cortana’s chip was completely destroyed.

We should be moving further away from the original Halo trilogy as the story should not stagnate.
