Earn Battle Pass EXP from Matches Based on Points

As the title suggests, I feel progressing through the battle pass would be much more enjoyable if we were able to obtain exp from playing the game and get rewarded based on performance through points. For example:

100 points = 10 exp
2300 points = 230 exp

How well you do in your match will impact how much exp you earn through the battle pass instead of through limited challenges alone. It incentivizes players to improve themselves while rewarding their improvement at the same time.

As it stands the point system feels very limiting. Doing the challenges alone gets you to level 5 / 6. If there are 100 levels I can’t imagine anyone reaching the end.

Yeah something else than the challenges needs to be implemented, at the moment its just ‘go play another game until next week’ as far as progression goes, I myself managed to reach lvl 8 or 9 but I’m stuck without any new challenges, I reckon I could’ve made it to maybe 13 if I used all the xp boosts at the right time, still why put 20 levels if is unreachable

I speculate for further monetization. I mean you have the ability to use credits to buy levels

You do? I saw buying double XP but not just level skip… can you explain a bit? Away from my console atm.

Idk, I’m no marketing expert, but if I’m only halfway through the season pass and I still get to keep it, I don’t see why I would buy the newer one until Im done with the old one, specially if the xp requirement is always the same and the cooler items are at the end.

As for the test flight its not like you can buy more credits, so I don’t see how I can reach lv 20, and its not for a lack of trying, I have about 12hrs so far, despite work on Friday and house chores on Saturday, and I’ll prob put more in tonight, and with all that I doubt I’ll make it over lv 10, so no Recon for me :frowning: (Not too salty about it, its not like we keep it anyway, and getting to play it early was reward enough for me)

You can literally skip levels with 200 credits.

@Bakastep, I completely missed that. At least it’s cosmetic.

Also, I have a challenge for CTF lol. Isn’t it all slayer right now? Caps the points and levels if you bought skins.

Yeah, the challenges are swappable but limited in how many times you can swap a challenge. I wouldn’t worry about it too much as it’s a flight test. I’m sure they didn’t think about removing challenges that couldn’t be completed due to the nature of the flight test.

The issue I have with it is that after finishing your weekly there’s not much of an incentive to continue playing. As many others have said there’s a gated feeling where after challenges are done players will want to stop playing until the new challenges show up the following week. These challenges can be finished all in a day within an hour or so. I can imagine after the game releases for several months it will get repetitive as everything has been explored and the challenges become routine.

Finish weekly challenges > Come back in 6-7 days to finish them all again. There’s also the fear that even if all of the challenges are completed every week they may not finish the battle pass in time for the next one. The issue with this is for the completionist who want to continue with each battle pass they’ll eventually have a backlog of incomplete battle-passes. Battle passes never run out, sure, but I do hope that you are able to finish the whole battle pass with challenges alone.

XP boosts and spending credits to skip levels should only be for those who missed their weekly/daily challenges, or for those who just want to support the game for the sake of it and want everything the same day. I also worry about price per credit. I’m wondering if it will be $10 or $20 per battle pass. I didn’t find that information anywhere. If you know anything about pricing do share.

They said they’re taking a lot from MCC. I honestly never spent my accrued MCC season points lol… but refresh my memory. Your leveling tiers (30 ranks * 11 tours) were separate from the Season points & challenges, correct?

Maybe for HI demo we’re just seeing a concept tested here and pacing will be different. Surely if ppl are burning through them & they see engagement drop, they’ll adjust.

I honestly couldn’t tell you. It’s been so long since I’ve touched Halo in general. I played MCC a bit when it was ported to PC but the controller support at the time was so off putting that I dropped it until Infinite flight test.

I think challenges are the only way to level up the battle pass for the flight I hope. I wish they find a way to include all xp earnings towards the battle pass similar to warzone, where total xp is factored in.

This is only in the flight, not the main build of the game, plus I’m at level 17 as they mentioned you get to choose what you want to put your progress to.

I doubt they will only do challenges to level the battle pass I bet it’s just a flight thing

Also do you get anything special for hitting level 20 in the battle pass

I don’t think so. They did say nothing from the flight will carry over, as for rewards they may do a beta thing where you get a beta test emblem. That and/or a forum beta emblem as well like the Halo 5 beta ones.

That being said, if you DO purchase 2 or 3 battlepasses at once, how do you spread your xp earned out between those passes, do you get to choose where the xp goes? Is it gonna be like MCC but with a reach style point system? Maybe that’s what those 2000 credits were that they gave us? I’m hoping after flight we will hear more details

I agree with getting exp for just playing the game instead of challenges it I’m against it being performance based.
Really afraid that it will put a salty edge on sharing power weapons and even being the driver in a BTB match. Guess it could make a little impact but make it like 20% extra on top of the base exp or something, rewarding but not worth sweating for.

In the Multiplayer Overview trailer in June. They said that you can choose which battle pass to put your progress towards, any of the old ones or the current one. And that all battle passes will always be available for purchase. Judging by the technical preview its going to be XP based and not points based so I’m thinking its 1 of 2 ways:

  1. Once you choose a battle pass to work through, you have to complete it before moving on to another
  2. If switchable ~ Before playing matches, you simply need to activate the one you will be earning XP for

You select the battle pass you want to work on, then begin completing challenges. That exp will be allocated to the selected battle pass. Battle passes are swappable and you keep the progress you made for any battle pass.
