Early wraiths?

This is just a quick post so I don’t have to make it later, but I’ll play some games later and let you guys know how well it works…I got a nice build going which I’ll work on, but obviously Wraiths aren’t the strongest of units, but surely their build speed, build time, cost and fantastic first upgrade should make them somewhat a fair rushing unit? Can’t imagine it being too fun to recover from after though since the factory is rarely used.

If anyone’s got any packets of advice I’d be happy to take it on board E.g, leader choice, build order (to a certain extent) and well, that’s it =/ I’d rather try this against UNSC’s as if I go against a Chieftain or Arby they’ll probably ruin me…

The point of this is to keep down their tech two buildings ASAP, and clean up any tech two units they might have out…Tanks shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the Wraiths themselves due to the fact I should outnumber them quite well by the 4ish minute mark, and as for hornets I guess I’m relying on my leader power for that. Very much doubt infantry is gonna hurt me too much. Bit of micro and we could have a fair result. This seems most viable in 1s due to the fact that a Covie leader will wipe out the Wraiths, and obviously the less players in the game, the less chance of an enemy Covie appearing =)

I’ll try this for the next 10-20 games and see if I can adapt it to work, my main decision is whether or not to get Citadel and those extra Warehouses, but I might be forced to…Anyway bye

brute chieften:

build order, WH, WH, T, bless 2xWH, WH, WH, upgrade base, Factory, WH. you might want to include a turret in there some where. make 5 or 6 wraiths then sell factory and make a summmit or save cash for T2.

If I’m right you should be there with 1 or 2 wraiths when the VD or AP goes up. don’t get the upgrade until you have 3 or 4 wraiths because you need to overwhelm the enemy quickly. make brutes as well to help compensate for the wraiths crappy building damage.

If covenant goes to early wraiths UNSC should be able to build couple turrets and spartans to counter that.

I guess the build order on Tundra/Release for quick wraiths is :

  • 3 x warehouse
  • temple 3rd/4th
  • bless your warehouses ASAP
  • collect as many crates as you can
  • factory 4th or 5th

With that build you get about 3 x wraiths at 4 minute mark + some supplies to rage/vortex/beam.

If you first research citadel and then start to build wraiths you will not catch the enemy soon enough to keep the vehicle depot/air pad down. Also enemy most probably has some hogs to harass your base so you need a turret to defend as well.

If enemy gets scorpions/hornets out he can defend his base pretty easily with couple of turrets. Wraiths (even with heavy shields) are quite bad against buildings/turrets/scorpions.

This is how I see things. I hope better players will give their corrections. O.o

It usually isn’t a good idea to make wraiths off a keep because you can only afford 1 turret to protect your base, and you have less money to work with. this means the enemy can come in with some hogs and take out one of your warehouses, and that means you’ll have to cut wraith production if you want to get your blessed warehouse back, or to make another turret; but if you do that you have no money for your leader power so you can’t keep turrets down(rail gun murders wraiths), soon you’ll be outnumbered by grenadier warthogs which can and will kill your wraiths.

you now have no units(unless you ran away) and no citadel. meanwhile the enemy has T2 and will have scorps or hornets coming + gren hogs and all you can make are crappy wraiths. you won’t be able to switch fast enough; only way you could is to make 3 wraiths and then as soon as you get to the enemy base sell the factory and upgrade the base and start pumping banshees. problem with that though is you won’t have enough wraiths to stop a hog spam.

I tried it with a WH-WH-T-WH-upgrade WHs-Factory…It works well, but it’s countered by a couple of hogs taking down the factory while you’re bust on offense. Turrets aren’t too much trouble and if you keep some cash spare you can use the leader power to knock down, or prevent, the VD/AP…Evidently if you get to this point all you have to do is keep yourself away from any mac blasts, and watch out for sneaky Gremlins, or Elephants; you’ll either get stunned by the Gremlin, or the Elephant will try and get some Spartans out…

With the build above you can have just under enough cash to keep it up, you lose about 10 recs for each Wraith you build meaning if you want to have any leader power cash, it’s imperative you remember to keep that aside…Aside from that this works pretty well, especially on the bigger 1v1 maps when the enemy isn’t likely to scout straight away…Try it yourself if you really want to, not that you need my permission but yeah, bye.
