Since the game counts different weapon skins as different weapons does that mean (I preordered from gamestop so I get the BR artic skin) that if I put in the code I will have the BR the second I start playing Halo 4?

I have no idea. It could do that, or we’ll need to unlock the BR, which is supposedly unlocked early in the SR ranks.

I think you have to unlock the BR before you can use the skin for it. It can’t be unlocked by the skin itself or else it would be totally unfair for those who didn’t preorder the game.

The AR is the starting weapon, you get it right away.

That is one of the first things you start with.
As for the OP, I’m sure you have to unlock the weapon in order to use the skin variants.
You unlock the ability to choose just about any weapon at SR4. It’s not when you can unlock the weapons, it’s how many you can unlock before you start “buying” AA’s or AM’s (armour mods.).
So if you get the BR right away, it’s not that huge a deal, within an hour of gameplay I will have my first loadout with the weapons that I want.
Having 5 loadouts with every wanted weapon and ability, now that’s what’s going to take a lot of time. Some players will have their only 2 weapons unlocked for all time within an hour… As said, no worries. It’s the players who can get their 5 loadouts maxed so quickly via x2XP, that’s a worry.
It’ll probably unlock the skinned variant right away, and you’ll still have to unlock the regular one(as in, you can use the BR right away but only the Arctic one). That’s how these thing usually work.
And for everyone whining about it being unfair, you know you get the BR at SR-2, which probably takes 10 minutes, right? Just checking.
