I don’t think limiting availability of beta codes to those who buy Series X is a good idea by any means. It should be open to whoever wants to try it like Halo 3 and Halo Reach’s beta was. Even Halo 5’s beta was tied to those who own MCC, but I think think it should be open to all interested gamers in light of attracting new people.
Edit: Halo 3 was a Crackdown pre-order, and Reach was a Halo 3: ODST pre-order… feels bad!
Regardless, I still think and open-beta would be a good idea for Infinite!

Wasn’t Halo 3’s beta tied to the purchase of Crackdown? In any case, this would still just be a “closed” beta situation where eventually (perhaps after a couple of weeks) it would open up to the general public.
The halo 3 beta required having crackdown and the halo 5 beta required MCC. I could definitely see Microsoft only allowing series x owners to play the infinite beta. IMO, If they do release the game for both consoles and pc, I believe they would most likely require MCC as it is the only halo game that could be played on all platforms. This would be the best way to beta test the game.

3’s Beta was tied to owners of Crackdown, Reach was tied to owners of ODST.
Given that the series X will be the primary device for Infinite, it would make sense to promote the beta on it to ensure that 343 gets enough testers on that device. Xbox one testers will be able to provide general feedback, but i think it’s crucial that the game, and therefore the beta, is optimized for series x.
I think there more likely to ditch any ‘paid’ beta’s. All beta test’s these days have been replaced by ‘flights’ so far, so it’s more likely if people sign up for Halo Insider program then they will most likely get into future Halo Infinite flights so codes could go out to either Xbox One or Xbox series X.

lol, I feel silly. You guys reminded me of that. I will edit.
I was thinking that they could unlock it for a week oroor two on the Series X/S and then periodically unlock the Beta on other platforms, that way the Series X Beta would last the longest (let’s say, about a month). That could be a pretty cool incentive

I said the same thing earlier on a forum post and yes, It could be a very likely possibility. I think they’d launch a multiplayer beta for launch week of the series X so that fans who would’ve already been playing the game at that moment have a taste of what they’ll be getting. As for the PC fan base they could either launch flighting side by side the console beta or launch it earlier for those in the Halo insider program whose PC rigs meet or exceed their test bench requirements for the series X and/or S. As for the limited population, making the beta crossplay would offer a nice solution as the MCC has planned by the end of the year. If the MCC crossplay comes before and its a major success then im sure the fans and 343i alike will see that as a potential flighting plan.

Haha, yea. I suppose if we keep with that precedent then Halo Insider would be a good way for Halo: Infinite to be beta tested. People who actually play halo games a lot like MCC or Halo 5.

If this was the case that would severely limit the population. I can see them giving to those with gamepass and then expanding it to everyone over time
I wouldn’t see this fairing to well as the gaming community as a whole already despise micro transactions, this would basic be a macro transaction at the cost of a new Xbox.

I probably missed the news but is Series X officially the go-to or main platform for Infinite? I was getting anxious Halo was moving into PC as primary platform.
It seems far more likely that the Halo Insiders program, the one used to test MCC updates, will be used as the beta system for Infinite.
It’s already set up will full player feedback systems which I imagine would be convenient for testing.
I wouldn’t mind that as long as there was an open beta shortly after the limited beta. I think something as important as a beta needs a decent population to give any meaningful feedback, so an open beta on all 3 platforms would be ideal.
