Dynamic Vehicle Destruction In Infinite?

So I was watching the latest #Ask343 session (#Ask343 | Halo Infinite – Sandbox Team - YouTube) And the question at the timestamp 10:03 is really interesting to me.
The Lead Sandbox Designer talks about how in the July Gameplay Demo, the Suicide Grunt takes the front wheel off the Warthog, he said the design team are working on “A fully fledged dynamic response system to (vehicle) damage” because they want to reward the Pilots and Wheelmen of the Halo Community.
He talks about how certain tires can be shot and with air vehicles like the banshee maybe the wings will be shot off and then the vehicle will behave differently based on what parts get shot at. They say that the aim of this is to make engaging vehicles more entertaining and to provide interesting gameplay opportunities and choices.
I think this is a really interesting topic and I’d love to see what the Halo Community thinks.

like it. Not much else to say for me lol

I’ve always wanted this in a halo…shooting the track off the scorpion to slow its speed, shoot out the front two tires on the hog to watch it front flip, take a wing out, etc. I love it and the idea. I can’t wait to see it implemented!

I was super excited to hear this news.

I have always felt like fighting vehicles on foot without a power weapon has always been a bit of a lost cause especially when fighting tanks and banshees.

But now this opens up a opportunity for small arms fire to be meaningful. If I can attribute damage to a vehicle or hinder it without having any top tier weaponry I think that’s a good medium to have.

I’m excited to see the affects different damage does to a vehicle. How much will having tires shot off make an impact? Will banshees start struggling to turn with a damaged wing? A lot of potential here!

This ask343 was awesome! That “dynamic vehicle damage” sounds so good. Like Don Cgj already said it would make medioum damage weapons much more useful and of course it will require more skil.

Crippling a Mantis by removing a leg.

Make Warthogs less deadly by destroying the turret. Or, being able to tear off the turret and use it after the engine died.

Drop a Hornet by destroying it’s engines.

Like the way the scorpion and wraith could have their main guns shot off in Reach?! I would love to see this implemented and expanded more in the game.

Drivers would have to be more careful of their placement and adapt to their new situations if a vehicle part stopped working. I’m all for this, because it makes the game more engaging for the player.

The biggest reason to be excited about this, is that vehicles don’t have to have unreasonably low health anymore.

In Reach and especially 4 vehicles felt like they were made of tissue paper. Now small arms don’t need to be able to blow vehicles up in a matter of seconds, since they would instead be able to weaken a vehicle’s performance.

We can finally have vehicles be a serious threat again like they were in 3, without needing the crazy upgraded versions from Warzone to make it happen!

Hopefully this includes damaging the vehicles weapons. Such as destroying a scorpions cannon. But I hope that doesnt immediately blow the vehicle up. Someone in a wraith may still want to try to splatter people after their cannon is damaged.

I think that when the vehicle explodes violently, you shouldn’t die with it. you could take lots of damage but still survive maybe. ORR if somebody shoots the gas tanks in the back, there would be an explosion in the back which would effect the back wheels. Just an idea (EDIT: I’m talking about the warthog)

Yeah there should be no exploding vehicles, just damaging parts then making them obsolete, then you can explode them somehow

Or maybe throwing a grenade under the warthog to cause damage and make it not run

I’ll be interested to find out the extent this damage system goes to. Going back to H2, there has always been impact to your vehicles performance depending on its damage state. Ghosts get less accurate as they take damage, warthogs speed and handling went down as they took more damage. And I swear that H3 hogs get “pushed” by bullets and grenades more when they’re in a high damage state.

I’m pumped that we’re getting an evolution here though.
