Since BTB gets bonus “Match Completed” XP, it got me thinking of other ways to modify XP based on which playlists you play. None of this would really be intended to drastically increase or decrease the amount of XP gained (as to not punish casual play), but would build in some extrinsic value to modes, and play-styles in those modes (vs just intrinsic value of personally enjoying those modes/play-styles)
-
- Boosted Match Complete for Event Playlists, to encourage playing Event modes during Events
-
- Boosted MVP for being top player in FFA Playlists, since FFA is harder to win than Teams. Maybe just Boosted Winning Team, as MVP and Winner are functionally the same thing in FFA? Could even remove MVP from FFA playlists, but that’s creating too many moving (readas: breakable) parts, vs just increasing the number of points.
-
- Boosted MVP and/or Top 50% for Ranked, to encourage competitive Objective focus in Ranked
-
- Potentially decreased XP for Customs and Bot Bootcamp to avoid boosting while still providing extrinsic value to playing those modes. Maybe Remove the Winning Team from Bot Bootcamp, and remove Match Completed in Customs? And could then boost the other values, therefore encouraging thoughtful play instead of just grinding Bot Bootcamp to easy wins, or creating a Single Kill To Win mode in Customs and boosting Match Complete XP. It would still be exploitable…but much less so.
Are there any other playlist ideas to think of? The trick is to encourage certain play, without punishing other types of play. The current XP system is already super rewarding imo, and doesn’t need any decreasing from here. 30 tiers in 120 days feels way too fast, but 100 tiers in 90 days will feel great with this system imo.
I think eventually we’d all love to see some sort of “XP Per Medal” incorporated into the system. Even if it’s just 3-5-10 XP per medal - more common or “things that just happen” medals, like From the Grave or Double Kill, Perfect, etc would provide 3 XP - more difficult medals like SkyJack, Triple Kill, etc get 5 - and then quite difficult/super deliberate ones like Quigley or Mind the Gap can be 10 XP. Then maybe cut those values down to 1, 3, and 5 in Customs and Bot Bootcamp, again to avoid cheesing the system while still providing extrinsic value to playing those modes.
