Dynamic Lighting - Awesome

I really just can’t get over the Dynamic lighting, it has just been the biggest feature that appeals to me, it gives me so many new challenges in forge, it makes the game feel so much more immersive, it’s just the great addition in the look of Halo.

How do you feel about the new Dynamic lighting in Halo 4?

It’s -Yoink!-.

The graphics in general have really impressed me in this game. It looks absolutely gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what forgers come up with

I know, man. Imagine making a dome. Inside the dome, it is completely dark because it is closed off. Imagine to possibilities!

I don’t think the game does progressive shadowing, unless I’m wrong then yes, making a pitch black dome would be neat.

I hate it. I think it should be removed before the game ships. It’s just too different from past halos.

Infection is going to be much more better because of this. Imagine! You can build dark abandoned bases with little to no light sources. If zombies this time actually look like zombies or make scary noises I am going to -Yoink- my pants when playing customs with my friends .

What’s sad is that I can’t actually be sure whether or not this guy is kidding.

Haha I guess I should’ve put sarcasm in brackets. I’m kidding. It was my attempt at a satirical comment since people seem to hate every little change made in this game.

Sorry I spilled my coffee when I read your comment.

EDIT!
Thank god you were kidding. xD

A much needed feature to help terrain maps.

I’m just worried about framerate.

What’s it say about the level of negativity in this community that my comment can be misconstrued as serious?

Heh it’s cool I figured you were joking, but as you say it’s sad because I honestly would not be surprised if there was someone that had a problem it.

It looks amazing! The game really looks beautiful.

its so amazing, incredible, now i can play with the people

Dark room + zombies = run for ur life

This.

I like the change, but it seems like it would only contribute to the most limiting factor of Reach Forge: Framerate.

It really needed fixing in Reach. I hope they did in 4; otherwise, we will have all these shiny lights, but next to no maps to use them on because more than 10 pieces next to each other overheats the Xbox.

But, with CA making Forge, I have hopes they’ll tidy things up. It’s gonna be one of the first things I check in Halo 4.

It’s a much needed addition, in Halo Reach you’d be standing in the shade, then walk out into the sun and there’d be no difference in the lighting on your gun OR on your character model, TBH Halo 3 has better lighting effects than reach did, and i’m glad they’ve taken the effort now to make it as realistic as possible.

Seriouly dude sorry but there are so many nostalgic idiots who spit out -Yoink- like that. It’s really hard to tell if they are serious or just trolling.

Haha well played sir.

And to the OP - yes it does look amazing. Hard to believe this is 360 hardware to be honest when you realize the 360 came out in 2005.

> I know, man. Imagine making a dome. Inside the dome, it is completely dark because it is closed off. Imagine to possibilities!

It’s still not confirmed that that will happen (going completely dark, I mean). I’ve asked several times but never got an answer.

I imagine it would, logically. However, they may have something in place to prevent a completely dark room, due to not having enough light objects available to properly light a map. So they may have some logic in place to set the room to a default lighting when dealing with enclosed objects. I’d be sad if that’s true, but it may just be the case.

If not, then I’ll be even more stoked than I already am. The lighting alone is going to create some AMAZING options for map making, which I just recently got back into a few months ago when I started my first full-fledged Forge map in Reach. It’s done now, and I’m totally proud of it and think it’s amazing. However, the lighting is terrible (even though it’s built in the big gray room in Forge World), and certain pieces turn weird colours due to the lighting engine in Reach. I can only imagine what this map would look like in Halo 4; it’d have so many amazing shadows and it would really bring the map from looking like a lego-style build to a real, legit looking Halo map.

In fact, if constructed properly, Forge maps in Halo 4 could look extremely similar to staff-created maps. With the exception of moving objects, a lot more unique pieces and light sources, and more diverse textures of course; 343i can pretty much do anything they want, with their only limitations being the hardware constraints. But what I mean is that maps will look professionally made, as long as they’re constructed as such. They won’t look like “thrown together” pieces and such.

I’m just hoping for more than 2 light sources, and hoping that with the new lighting engine, said light sources will do more than just make a few Forge pieces reflect a bit of blue or red or whatever on the surface; I’m hoping they’ll cast shadows, and actually “light up” areas. Maybe some options as to how much light they give off, and being able to pick from more than 3 or 4 colours.

Also, some Forge pieces that emit tiny bits of light/glow; for example, a futuristic lamp-post like you might see on the “Headlong” or “Terminal” maps. Or maybe little lamps/light fixtures you would see on the walls of the “Reflection” map, etc. Things that don’t hage huge, processing-crunching light sources, but that emit a bit of light and provide a bit of visual distinction. I’d love that

Lastly: elevators, like you see in the “Sword Base” or “Construct” maps. At least 2 or 3 different kinds/heights, maybe.

Here’s to hoping! Regardless, it looks amazing just the little bit we’ve seen so far, that’s for sure!
