Duplicate downloads... An easy fix!

I’ve noticed alot of people having this issue lately. You’ve been on Waypoint and used the “send to my xbox” option, now files are downloading like wildfire? Eating up all of your precious HDD space? I myself was plagued with this problem for about a week or so, and at first I thought, oh it will stop eventually… I was soooo wrong.

I figured if I didn’t find a way to remedy this problem soon, I’m gonna stop playing H4 all together… Who wants to keep deleting duplicate files everytime they load up the game. So… I tried a couple of things, and apparently something I did worked. This is what I did…

First I loaded up my Internet Explorer app on my console, (which is what I originally used to queue up the files that have been haunting my console), after loading up the website, I made sure that I was completely logged out of Waypoint. Then I loaded up my H4 game disc and navigated to my local files and deleted all of the duplicate files, then opened the “active transfers” menu. Here I found a list of every file that had been bombarding my HDD, I cleared out the list of active downloads, then reset my console in hopes that this may have done some good… probably not… the onslaught of downloads had commenced in full force, I was running out of patience, and my love for playing this game was quickly slipping away.

(How I finally fixed the problem!)
After all else had failed, I decided to get on my PC and do some poking around. I logged into Halo Waypoint’s website and navigated to my file share and quickly located the “active transfers” menu. And would’nt you know it, there was that same list of files that I had grown to hate. So I cleared out the entire list of files that were queued for download. Logged out of Waypoint and then I figured I would try the game one last time. When I loaded up my H4 disc and started the game, the download madness had finally come to an end. So I’m guessing that clearing out the files from my web-based file share’s download queue did it… Or maybe it was the combination of all the steps I took leading up to the actual fix. I dunno, but whatever, it worked!

Not sure if this will work for everyone, but it worked for me. Hope this helps someone. Good luck.

For those who have no idea where the Active Transfers page is, you can either modify the following URL and replace XXXXXXXXXX with your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

Alternatively, you can navigate to said page by choosing Career > File Share > Xbox Downloads and clicking Clear Download Queue.

I was having this problem too and didn’t even know it. I just thought it was odd that it was telling me the same gametype downloaded every time I loaded up Halo 4–I didn’t think it was downloading duplicates.
I fixed it by going to Career > File Share > Xbox Downloads and clicking Clear Download Queue, per above instructions.
Can we get this added to the Support FAQ sticky until the issue is resolved?
