dumb multiplayer achievements again?

I’m a perfectionist when it comes to games but one thing that really annoys me about halo is the is the stupid multiplayer achievements they always put in. It’s normally one’s that can only be boosted or complete luck/chance.

some that come to mind from previous halo games.
halo 3: when halo 3 came out for some reason they made nearly all the achievements in the lone wolf playlist, which at the time only had 5 people in or map specific ones which are impossible after the dlc playlist is gone
Two for one: Scored a Double Kill with a single spartan laser shot in a ranked free for all playlist.
Killtactula: On a Mythic map, got a Killtacular during a ranked or social match.
Have fun respawning: On a Mythic map, got an Extermination during a ranked or social match.

halo 4: loads of weird map specific luck based achievements.
Now they can fly? In Crimson DLC matchmaking, got a kill while airborne in a Warthog.
special delivery In Crimson DLC matchmaking, killed an enemy with melee when landing from a Man Cannon.
flash of light In Majestic DLC matchmaking, got a Double Kill or higher with one Pulse Grenade.
that won’t save you In Castle DLC matchmaking, assassinated an enemy who is using a Hardlight Shield. (this one was impossible no one used hard light shield and they had to be using it as you assassinate them…in the castle DLC maps)

surprisingly MCC doesn’t have that many annoying ones seeing as there are 600 but one’s that are map specific again such as 100 environmentalist medals, 100 splatter in anniversary i’m sure more you can name. what do you think of the chances they will have any achievements like these again?

What would your ideal Achievements be?

grindable ones that count in EVERY playlist.

maybe customes as well but grindable from basic playing

something that isn’t based around specific maps that don’t come up very often and don’t rely on other people to do things/be somewhere to get it

^ Hear hear.

Agree. As much as I love Halo, it has a terrible track record with multi achievements. I’m hoping that, with the absence of paid map packs, they lose the compulsion for ‘Do X on Y Map’ that -Yoink- is dumb.

All for a general list of ‘get this many medals’ or ‘this many headshots’ or even some specific action ones, just please no specific action on specific maps in specific gametype. Just… No. Stop.

I managed to get all of the achievements in Halo 3, ODST, and Reach. Yeah, some of them were annoying, but overall I didn’t mind.

The biggest annoyances were the ones that were DLC map specific, since they eventually didn’t have playlists specific to those maps, so the chances of getting the map were slim to none, and then the right game type, and then being able to pull it off. Those were the worst of them. Luckily, with free DLC, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Yeah, I generally dislike those hyper specific multiplayer achievements. Don’t think I ever got the ranked FFA Overkill cheevo. I did get the FFA Splaser two-for-one, blasted a dude boarding a Ghost. Twas epic.

As much as a pain some of them have been in the past. I had a blast trying to get them with a friend tagging along for the assist. They fly now? was actually one of my favorites…

I am #1 for halo achievements and I do agree with this, but only to a degree. I agree that no achievements should be map specific, and no achievements should have to do with luck, which things like “two for one” from halo 3, or Two kills with a single pulse grenade in Halo 4 exemplified. The achievements should take skill, but should still be in reach of people within every skill level, and it shouldn’t force a player to change how they play. for instance I had to play a lot worse than normal to get 100 killjoys, because I usually do too well for opponents to get sprees. Just no luck, no need to use illegitimate means, and no specific map achievements like the OP listed and Ill be fine.

i agree with you op. i found those achievements to really annoying but when i got some of them man was it pretty cool.

Halo’s success has been MASSIVELY attributed to multiplayer. Either play it, or don’t have you self proclaimed ‘perfectionist’ ideal. This isn’t worth you making a thread about it, stop the complaining and either play, or don’t. Not many people on the forums care if you play or not, why make a post about how upset you are? Be a perfectionist at life, get some ZEN.

The Pulse Grenade one would be easy on Dominion - especially Lockdown or whatever it was called. With how easily everyone crowds the center area (Especially if THEY own the single base), double or triple kills are pretty easy to get with them.

That aside, Map-specific achievements tend to be a bad thing in practice, I agree.

I hope they are challenge enough

I don’t mind achievements in multiplayer as long as you can play it. Like an achievement in Reach I couldn’t get because about a week after the last DLC launched they stopped putting whatever objective gametype it was for the achievement so its impossible to get it. Same with Halo 4

I remember one like that for Halo 3. I believe it was something to do with oddball. And the odds of it showing up in the playlist on an eligible map was like 1/84 or something astronomical like that. It was ridiculous.

Aren’t you tied technically with a bunch of others?

But ya with OP, I agree regarding the annoying multiplayer ones, they definitely suck and I’m still working on the MCC ones, but It’s Halo. It’s part of the Halo life. I just kind of deal with it and move on. I do wish they weren’t part of achievements, but we don’t get everything we want/wish for.

Environmentalist was easy…
just shoot stalactites/fusion core thingies in lockdown… the achieves that really suck are “play 100 games of this” when it’s a crappy mode you have no interest in playing.
the achievement/trophy thing has gotten out of hand with ridiculously dumb achievements though.

I pulled off the 2 for 1 on king of the hill. Just as I fired at the player owning the hill another player came from out of nowhere and stepped in front of me. Didn’t realize what happened until I got the achievement completed icon.

The one that drove me nuts was the sword one needing a triple kill or an overkill. That flipping sound of parried swords drove me nuts.

I don’t mind the multiplayer ones. Playing enough usually will get it done.

I couldn’t for the life of me get a double kill with the Spartan laser in H3. Couldn’t. Couldn’t even get a boost party. I gave up on multiplayer achievements for H3. I think I had 7 left lol.
I pop into the land of mcc years and years later, get a triple kill with the splaser in H3.

I think multiplayer achievements are good, but the ones that are map specific are dirt. Halo 5 needs WOW!
