Why did they ever get rid of dual wielding and will they bring it back in Halo 5?
It was already confirmed to not be returning in Halo 5.
As for specific reasons? Well for starters it was a god awful mechanic that detracted from the core Halo mechanics while also doing horrible things to a subset of the sandbox in the name of ‘balance’.
Well those are my reasons for why I am glad dual wielding is gone, but to be honest it probably has more to do with the fact that 343 ran out of buttons to map all their ‘cool’ new spartan abilities…
What I had in mind is a weapon that when placed on the ground is a pair of whatever you want (smgs or whatever) and that could be a legendary/powerweapon. Just a thought.

I imagine it is because the Pro Player consultants (see The Sprint mini series), ruled it out as “not in the best interest of the competitive nature of the Halo community.”

You mean non-existant? I’m so terribly thrilled dual wielding is gone. I say never look back, keep it as is.
I never had a problem with it. It was good for close combat and gave the small weapons some type of advantage over the BR.
I’m down, I always loved the fact that a Spartan should be easily able to duel-wield. But that’s forgotten cuz of “multiplayer” this is almost starting to turn into WoW. Blizzard would say, “sorry, f the story, and what makes sense in lore!” but that’s ok, i’m not going to throw a tantrum like many on the forums obviously do.

Dual wielding is one of the few things from the trilogy that I don’t want to return.
I don’t see why it was a game breaking mechanic? Can someone explain that to me? It gave you increased firepower (slightly) but took longer to melee and could not through grenades. I think that evened itself out. Along with the fact that you can’t dual wield all weapons, just a few.
Without dual wielding every weapon does 100% damage.
With dual wielding some guns will do 100% while others will do around 50% since you have to accommodate the fact that you can hold 2.
So why have 2 guns at 50% when you can have 1 at 100%.
Weapons are better balanced without it, glad its gone. Plus how often was anyone using it in H3? It was more a fad than anything.
Dual wielding SMGs and Needlers was fun, but meh, I’m not too fussed over it. If it comes back, cool, if it doesn’t, that’s fine by me.
It would be nice. Maybe a no ability, dual wield only mode. Just a thought.
