I was sorely disappointed when I found out dual-wielding was absent from Halo 4, and I think that Halo 5 should bring it back. Of course, there should be no sprinting or vaulting with it, and removing the jet pack as an option when dual-wielding could also be done to balance it.
It won’t happen. You have to rebalance half the weapons to make dual wielding viable. It’s something you plan from the start because it can’t be tacked on later.
I liked dual wielding, it was legitimately fun. But it’s not gonna be in H5.

This. Unfortunately, most of the Spartan abilities take up all the buttons on the controller. There aren’t really any buttons left for duel wielding, unless you do it Halo 2 style with Y to duel wield, but that was awkward compared to picking each weapon up on the bumpers like Halo 3. If Spartan abilities weren’t there hogging up all the buttons, then I think it would be possible.
it’s more of an issue of balancing it properly than buttons

It was balanced in 2 and 3. It can be done

Define balanced. Was it used at all seriously? Did the BR beat it in pretty much every circumstance? Did it nerf every one of its weapons into oblivion to compensate?
I don’t miss it or think it should come back.
Dual wielding was really fun, but what I really miss is carrying a ton of ammo for the needler, like we could in Halo 3.

No. While it was “cool” it ruins weapon balance. The SMG was never worth using unless you had 2, which means that the weapon is never used due to the hassle of finding a second one (H3 mostly had them spawn next to each other). Honestly, if 343 has good weapon balance (much like the H5 beta did) dual wielding isn’t needed.
Plus with good weapon balance, the sandbox opens up. Dont get me wrong I love BRs to death, but having options is better for gameplay.

No. True weapon balance is being able to pick up 1, and be effective. The only way the SMG was ever effective is when you had 2 or had it in conjunction with a plasma based weapon. That is not balance. On top of that you couldn’t throw grenades with it. So I will take my single BR and a grenade and fight you with your two smgs. 10/10 times, I will win, even without skill.
