Personally I hope they don’t include it because it makes the weapons less satisfying when using them on their own. Remember how good the plasma pistol and rifle were in CE? then in Halo 2 they felt so much weaker when not dual wielding.
I miss the feature, but it’s been so long since we’ve had it it’s not really that important to me anymore.
I never understood the issues with it though. Make the “dual-wield” weapons good on their own and apply a slight buff when dual-wielding. This would make the weapons feel useful on their own, but not impractical to dual-wield them.
I never really liked dual wielding and didn’t miss it when it got dropped. It really upset the balance of the sandbox, turning some weapons into pea shooters unless you dual wielded with another weapon. I’d be happier taking forward a nicely balanced sandbox of weapons and Halo 5 made great progress on that
Balance the weapons around utility rather than time-to-kill and you could re-implement dual wielding more successfully than previous iterations.
For example, bring back the M6C, and give it the gunfighter Magnum’s quickdraw attribute. When dual wielded, you trade increased firepower for the lack of utility rather than doing so to make the weapon useful at all. You could also have the standard pistol balanced as is, and simply not have it dual wield-able.
This way, dual-wielding creates depth in the sandbox, rather than polluting it.
If that is so then original magnum was always op and i dont think one handed gun shouldnt be that powerful anyway when compared to rifles.
Dual wielding was one of those things that added to the supersoldier feeling without changing the core gameplay mechanics which is what Halo was good at before.
The balancing factors were that you were unable to throw grenades and while switching guns or melee attacking the weapon was dropped, didnt like that feature much but if its going to be in the game in future then something like lack of zoom could be one factor too.
Also, just to keep things balanced maybe the feature could be on non-competitive modes only as in campaign and such.
I always want dual-wielding to come back. It was never implemented perfectly, but it always felt right. 343 Industries should absolutely be trying to make it work. There’s a lot they could try – making it temporary (like, reloading causes you to drop it), separating the reticles (so that you can only hit the same person with both up close), and the simple trick of lowering damage dealt while a weapon is dual-wielded (so it’s functional alone). Something. It was too much fun, and I am sad every game that it’s not in.
it wouldn’t bother me either way. there were things I liked about dual weilding like using dual halo 2 pistols and the good old smg and plasma rifle combo in halo 3, and I’ve never had a problem not dual weilding while using a dual weidlable weapon even if they don’t do as much damage but it was also a feature I didn’t use often. it didn’t seem like something that would give me any sort of advantage, other than dropping a hundred weapons on the gondola in halo 2. overall it was cool but not important.
