After recently experiencing a few situations in game. I realised the potential of being able to drop a weapon without swapping it with another one. You could drop a sniper rifle to your carry or a spartan laser to your friend who wants to rush the enemy, all without the inconvenience of having to locate another weapon to swap it with.
Considering, the d-pad on controllers is heavily under-utilised, a simple drop weapon ability could be easily implemented with it in Halo Infinite.

Press down on the d-pad to lower weapon, press down again to drop it?.. maybe could work. Or maybe if you hold Y, a prompt comes up asking if you want to drop the weapon? I have encountered a good number of occasions when such a feature would be useful. I think it’s not a high priority but it would be nice.
If the flag now takes up a weapon slot then I would hope you would be able to drop it without having to find another weapon.

Where have you seen that the Flag now takes a weapon slot?
Do you mean we can pick up the flag and then swap back to a weapon such as use the Battle Rifle while the Flag is on our back?

Shyway has a great video on it. You can see when a player picks up the flag it snaps to their back for a second before being held normally. This could be a small bug since the game is still in development, but there is another clip where a player is using an AR with what seems to be the flag on their back.
