Dropping the Flag

So, I still believe that we should be able to drop the flag if we choose to. This allows for flag juggling, and in my opinion, a much more fun experience. I loved being able to drop the flag, spin around, and take someone out with a power weapon of some sort. It may cause less teamwork, but it allows for more people to show off their flag carrying skills.

At the VERY least, 343 should make this a toggleable option

I’m definitely in the minority here about this, but I like the auto pickup. Maybe I’m just cursed with non-objective minded teammates, but I can’t tell you how often I get to that flag moments before it resets… sometimes, you just need to kamikaze in there to keep the flag on the field, and that’s a very valuable thing to have. The flagnum is accurate enough for me, but I don’t really have time to look back or worry about anything but moving the flag closer to my base.

What if, for a compromise, the flag carrier gets to wield whatever weapon he was carrying – sidearms behave just like the flagnum; two-handed weapons like the automatics, scoped rifles, or power weapons can be used, but with decreased accuracy. This compromise keeps the flag moving but also lets the carrier use a weapon they’re better with.

Though I am definitely cool with the option to toggle it, Flagnum or backpacking the flag is what I prefer.

While we’re on the subject, any chance that we could have a holster attached to the flag pole so that the Flagnum doesn’t just appear out of no where.

And you guys are gonna think I’m crazy but I was glad to see flag juggling gone. It was by far one of the most stupidly ridiculously things that I have ever had to see in Halo.

Was it a skill? Yes. Was it balanced? Yes. Did it look dam stupid? Yes.

I’m not completely against flag juggling but is there a way to make it look less like my Spartan’s playing hopscotch while riding the flag pole like a pony?

> Though I am definitely cool with the option to toggle it, Flagnum or backpacking the flag is what I prefer.

This honestly, granted auto-pickup removed so a button must still be pressed to pickup the flag and the flagnum.

I honestly kind of like the flagnum. It’s fun to use and makes me feel empowered, yet vulnerable.

I’d definitely like an option to turn it off though, for sure.

why does everyone want Flag Juggling back?
if the flag carrier moves at full speed, there would be no need to be able to flag-juggle.

besides, it’s annoying as hell to constantly hear the announcer go “FLAG TAKEN, FLAG DROPPED, FLAG TAKEN, FLAG DROPPED, etc.”

It was a little skillful thing. If you were good at juggling it then you got to move faster.

The announcer repeating that over and over is annoying though.

I dont mind not being able to juggle the flag (flag taken, flag dropped, flag dropped, flag taken, flag dropped, AAAAAAARGH!)

But I dont want to accidentally pick up a flag by just standing next to it while trying to fight someone off with a more suitable weapon than a pistol.

I prefer the auto pick up and not being aloud to drop it. It means more teamwork and more debate on whether or not you should pick up the flag. And it stops the annoying “flag dropped, flag taken, flag dropped, flag taken”

> I prefer the auto pick up and not being aloud to drop it. It means more teamwork and more debate on whether or not you should pick up the flag. And it stops the annoying “flag dropped, flag taken, flag dropped, flag taken”

And also screws you over if you are in a fight with someone and you happen to walk over it.

That’s stupid. You would rather have worse gameplay because you didn’t like watching other players juggle the flag. While they are juggling shouldn’t you be slaying the enemies and protecting them? Who sits there and stares at their teammates juggling the flag?

Yep, like that time on Exile where I entered the enemy base with ICannon and accidently picked up the flag, and got destroyed instead of getting a nice double or triple kill.

Could there be a way to make one pick up the flag on command, but not allow the new carrier to drop it once picked up?

You know they could easily just code it so the announcer can only say that a certain number of times per minute. Complaining about that is ridiculous. There was far more teamwork and strategy with juggling than auto pickup.

In fact auto pickup is one of the dumbest things 343i could have done to halo. It’s even worse than not being able to drop it because you now have no control over timing things. Let alone you can’t even press the back button in Halo 4 without losing complete control over your character’s movement. The whole point of flag was to control the map. You want a gametype where it’s about timing and luck instead of teamwork.

Autopickup must go. Juggling must return. It always worked in halo 2 and halo 3. Pros liked it. Casual players liked it. Only new players dislike it because they know no better.

ONLY if auto-pickup is disabled and even then it’s still bad.

If you’re carrying a rocket when you pick up the flag on accident you can’t use the rockets anymore. And on top of that you can’t drop it if you accidentally picked it up.

No, flag dropping is a must. You shouldn’t be able to backpack the flag unless we’re going to backpack all carry-able objectives like oddballs, bombs, etc.

You’ve seemed to have missed the last paragraph of my post, along with a lot of other things.

The message that I was trying to convey is that flag juggling looks ugly, not that I’m spending to much time staring at my teams flag carrier.

You seem to also be making the assumption that I’m looking at the flag carrier on my team and that’s the only scenario in which I’m seeing it.

I could’ve been talking about the carrier on the enemy team, someone I should definitely be keeping my eye on.

I could’ve also have been referring to watching a professional match that I wasn’t participating in.

I also could’ve been referring to having to watch myself flag juggle, which is just as stupid looking in first person.

What I was really referring to is a combination of the four. I’ve got nothing against the mechanics of flag juggling, it’s just that the ugliness of it made me happy that I would get a break from it in Halo 4. Ideally 343 will find a way to keep flag juggling and remove the stupidity of how it looks in the next game.

Definetly no flagnum. Flagnum is less skillful, and it is annoying to auto-pickup the flag and then not being able to drop it again. I could very well argue why it is less skillful but the basic rule goes as follows: If it’s in Halo 4, it’s less skillful.

Have Flag Dropping and the Flagnum both be in the game, but Flag Dropping is the main way to play CTF, and Flagnum is an action Sack/Custom game option.

So what? If you’re in a fight walking anywhere without being mindful of your surroundings tends to have bad consequences. I don’t think we need to enable one of the silliest aspects of CTF (ie. dribbling) just to add a little extra padding to this ball pit.
