Dropping The Flag on Nov 6

Comprehension: NOWHERE have I ever said that I do not like the new CTF settings, I actually quite like what they did. However that does not mean that the traditional gametype should not be provided alongside the new one.

343 doesn’t give me the ability to drop the flag? Well I am going to drop it regardless of whether or not they intended for me to do so.

Come Nov 6 I will do everything in my power to avoid the flag. I will be “dropping” the gametype.

I can only hope that they left the option for custom games but 343 made it clear that they are standing behind their decision even if it is an unpopular one so it is unlikely that there will be an option for custom games.

I ask that everyone else who is discontent with 343’s decision to join me in this protest and make your voices heard not through campaigning on the forums for the feedback to fall on deaf ears but to take action and send the message by hitting the population numbers and statistics.

Edit:
Please note that removing the option from even the custom games is only going to alienate and anger players who enjoy the traditional gameplay. Not being able to even recreate the traditional style is a backwards step in Halo’s customizable gameplay. 343 is adamant with their stance on the change and completely dodged questions in interviews on whether or not the old CTF settings will be in the game showing that they do not care to provide the option.

The protest is to show that people prefer the traditional CTF and are entitled to have that 10 year old tradition to continue to exist along side the “new hotness”. The new CTF settings are different and has its own skill set and tactics in its own right which is not being taken into question. It is all about having the traditional game style exist along side the new; it is as simple as that.

Also I would like to note that I have been a very strong advocate for Team Objective ever since Halo 2. I exclusively play Team Objective and greatly specialize in analyzing the meta game under such game modes. In Halo 2 I held a 38, Halo 3 a 50, and in Reach a 50 according to Halotracker with over 85% win rate. I am also consistently placed in top Onyx for the first 4 seasons. I have been known for my proficient writing of critical analyses regarding the Team Objective playlist which were very popular back in the Optimatch forum on B.net. Any comments regarding to “you suck”, “I’ll be here winning while you sit there not playing” or “you don’t know what you are talking about, give it a chance” are just untrue and quite frankly out of line as they do not challenge the topic brought up and considered spam.

You are in the wrong place for starting protests.

How about you try it first, then get back to me.

> How about you try it first, then get back to me.

Removing options is not a way to appeal to fans.

Especially something as fundamental as dropping the flag which has been around for 10 years.

There might be a classic CTF you can play…

I don’t see the big deal, all this option does is encourage players to work as a team to get in and out of the enemy base with the flag in little time. I prefer that instead of going on a suicide mission that I have a 5% chance of getting out of.

> There might be a classic CTF you can play…

Probably not on launch.

343 are ridiculously adamant about this, which I like.

You’re really not playing one super amazingly fun gametype just because of a little game mechanic? While you do that, I shall capture ALL the flags. Wish you would be there.

343 reminds me of my parents whenever I refused to eat something.

“If you don’t try it, you’ll never know if you like it!”

Why has this become such a big deal? This means it becomes more fair for the other team to defend a flag that has been taken. If one team is clearly better than the other, the lesser team has a slight advantage to kill the flag carrier.

I support the change. That’s just me.

I agree with OP.

Now before anybody says that I should try it before saying it is bad, I already have.

How you ask?

Because it is possible to replicate these settings in Reach with only one honour rule.

What we did was use speedflag as the default gametype. We then changed the settings to match what we saw at Pax (waypoint, speed, ect…).

We gave every player a magnum secondary and placed a bunch of magnums around the flag.

The honour rule was that you had to pick up a magnum before grabbing the flag and that you had to only use the magnum when carrying the flag.

We played 20+ gametypes like this and every single one of them were boring and terrible in general. We played mostly Asylum, Countdown, and Zealot, with a few games on hemorrhage and one game on paradiso (a lot of people rage quitted on the paradiso game).

The fact was it was hard to keep a party together. Every time we got a full party, it only took two or three games before people started complaining about how bad this was and leaving to go play matchmaking. We always asked what people’s feedback was after the game and all of them complained.

We didn’t get a single positive response at all. Not one.

In 20ish games with only 4 people staying for all of them, and a ton of different people coming and going, we got exactly 0 positive comments for the gametype.

“Dear Overkill, kicking -Yoink- in CTF…wish you were here.”

Overkill:"…I heard that, jack@ss"

Not being able to drop the flag creates an all-in situation that I bet none of you will want to do once you start playing Halo 4. Watch, ctf games will the full length and end in a tie way more often because no one in social matches will be willing to pick up the flag.

I like everything 343 has done so far, especially the new CTF.

I’m going with the flow

howa bout just play mario. that game may be better suited for you. I will not join in any protest until I have played the game period.

Most people in the games I played werent willing to pick up the flag as it was! I had to do it half the time while a bunch of 10 year olds were playing slayer…heh too bad for them xP

I have the best idea ever! Just don’t play the game type!

I don’t care for these changes, so I’m with OP. These changes make CTF more of a CTF-VIP escort hybrid, and I don’t particularly want to play that. Will be waiting patiently for classic CTF. I hope the rest of you have fun with the new version though.

This is the reason they’re, in some people’s words, “forcing” the change on us.

Because otherwise, they know you’d all just avoid it, then yell at them to change it back because the new version sucks, you having played it maybe once or twice.

Well I mean another solution could be…just dont touch the flag? IDK I understand why people dont like it but I dont think its a big deal, heck when they come out with classic I will likely play that as well but in the mean time Im okay with the present version.
