I hope the Drop Wall has a similar function to the Hardlight shield ability from Halo 4.
If it allows you to deflect solid objects & projectile weapon fire (SR bullets, Rockets, frags, etc) with precise timing, it would provide the opportunity for some spectacular plays and kills in MP
Iâm hoping (and assuming) it will function similar to the Bubble Shield in Halo 3.
Edit: while obviously being able to shoot through it from the deployerâs position.

Looks more like the Deployable Cover, which I believe does have a tiny opening you can shoot through. Only learned that this year lol.

I feel like allowing the deployer to shoot through the drop shield could be very annoying for anyone trying to combat against it. Maybe they could let you throw grenades through it from one side but letting you shoot through it could create situations where you could just wall off a hallway or something.

Oh for some reason I thought we saw chief shooting through it in the gameplay last year. May have been mistaken. I would prefer you couldnât shoot through it also.
Edit: I wasnât mistaken. From 4:07 in this vid. They said drop shield will be exactly the same in campaign and multiplayer I believe. Although it could have been tuned since this gameplay.

Chief did indeed shoot through the drop wall in the campaign demo. I think thatâs something they will probably keep for campaign but I can see that being a change they make for multiplayer. In the update today they did say there would be some differences between equipment for campaign and multiplayer, but that the essential role of each equipment would be largely the same.

Letâs hope so!

The deployable cover allows projectiles not of plasma go through the deployers side. It does seem like thatâs how the new equipment will work. It be intresting to see if power weapons can shoot through like rockets and snipers.

Iâd like to keep the full shield in Campaign for defense against vehicles & groups of enemies but it does look like it could be a hindrance in MP, due to itâs shield size.
Perhaps 343 could reduce the size of the MP Drop Wall, so that it is more adaptable for various situations?
I hope that never sees the light of multiplayer.
Assume it will be more like the H3 deployable shield

Well, 343I did say that certain equipment could be or act differently in MP then in campaign. Iâm not too worried about equipment in MP as if something is OP, 343I will hear about it quickly from us fans and I think they will act on it even quicker.
My concern is, most people (in life really) rush to judge something very quickly. I would hate to see x equipment get âfixedâ or removed entirely just because people havenât given it a chance yet or been exposed to it enough.

Thatâs why I hope players and 343 are able to work constructively together during the flighting phase, as it would be shame if some of the new weapons and equipment got thrown out early just due to initial poor reception.
Obviously, if something clearly negatively affects gameplay or makes the experience frustrating, thatâs another matter.
It looks like a nice mix of deployable cover and bubble shield.
From the january update:
> Equally important is how the equipment feels on the opponentâs end. Not only that itâs balanced, but that thereâs engaging counterplay or clear telegraphing that give players on both sides an opportunity to display skill mastery.
So, certainly there will be counters against the drop wall. It blocks projectiles, but it probably wonât block a walking Spartan⌠nor a grappleshoting one. Or grenades. If you learn the drop wall tell, you will be able to react accordingly.

Iâm thinking itâs possible that the deployer being able to fire through their side of the drop shield might be by design to keep combat from slowing down.
In Halo 3 when someone would drop the bubble shield many times combat would be disrupted or stopped. The only options the attacking player had were to charge into the shield for a melee which was risky, or just wait for the bubble shield to dissipate. However, with the drop shield allowing the player who deployed it to fire through, the opponent canât just simply stay there, they have to strategize on how to deal with the other player or else risk getting defeated. I think the drop shield being designed as a wall rather than a dome is evidence of this. The opponent will need to try and get around the shield to continue fighting and I think this is where other equipment items come in like the grapple shot for example.
I think some more evidence for 343 encouraging this behavior is in Joe Statenâs closing comments at the end of the January update about his fight with the Hunters. The game encouraged him to do âsomethingâ with the grapple shot to get the advantage over them. I could see someone deploying the drop shield and firing at their opponent, the opponent grappling to a piece of the environment behind the other player to the right or left of them and turning the tide of the encounter. And it sounds like they have more equipment they are still keeping secret that will have these chess type strategies imbedded in them.
I doubt anything besides weapons that ricochet by default, fuel rod cannon, will deflect. It will probably act as a directional bubble shield/ deployable cover.
My favourite piece of equipment ever was the bubble shield⌠so I canât wait to see the drop shield in action.
In multiplayer it will probably not last as long. I would give plasma weapons an advantage in weakening it faster. And you can always lob a nade over the top.
Fun times to be hadâŚ
being able to shoot through it might be a little broken. I personally would rather use it as a bullet blockade on small hallways while my shields recharge

Never ever should that be in multiplayer.
Its not just OP, its broken.
If not even a nade can screw this shield, its unbalanced as it can be.
i would be very surprised if we see this in mp

What about the bubble shield, was that âbrokenâ?
