Introduction
Okay there is a lot of people arguing over the whole Competitive Vs Casual thing,
At the end of the day people are arguing over a limited spectrum of small changes that will make a massive difference to how the game is play ed.
I would like to state for the record I have and always will be a competitive player, no wait in fact I am one of the most competitive players you’ll find I just finished a 48 Hours straight skill build session on Reach.
Yet with that said I still have a casual edge to me and enjoy sitting back cracking open a drink, filling my bowl of chips and playing some Halo with my friends.
I am one of the most ideal people to mediate and find a solution that suits bot sides.
Fact’s, Numbers, Notes
I would like to start off by saying 343 & Microsoft’s primary objective with any game or product they produce is profits. However we are their customers and our opinion’s are their number one concern. Our feedback helps map the future of Halo.
The Waypoint forums are less than half the community. Each online hub for Halo has different views, weather that be the MLG Forums, Forge Hub, Rooster Teeth, ect.
Halo 3 had a larger number of players than Reach by far, there is a reason. Halo 3 had a large competitive community, I dislike classing people but it is the simplest way to explain it.
When Reach released Halo’s competitive standpoint took a massive hit, I would render a guess that for every 25 casual players there is only 1 competitive player. In Halo 3 I would say it was 50:50.
Therefor the best interest of Halo is to please both sides.
Casual Player’s Arguing, Really
If you play Halo for fun why are you complaining, No competitive player ever said lets turn Halo Matchmaking into 100% MLG, We just want equal treatment, Casual players can play casually, Competitive player’s can play competitively.
Halo 3 hit the nail on the head with Ranked and Social hoppers. Combine them with Trueskill and Credits and there is a way for everyone to be happy.
Gameplay
That leaves the gameplay arguments like the “No Sprint” and “No AA’s” topics. Again split it down the middle Ranked playlists have a more Hardcore feel Social have a Casual feel.
I don’t see why this has even escalated into a argument. We CAN have it both ways.
No one is better
The one thing we have to do is please both sides, The problem Halo 3 had was you needed to get both exp and Trueskill to rank up, Don’t tie the system together, If a player want to go get their Trueskill up they play ranked, If they want to Rank up and get credits for Unlockable’s then they play Social.
Neither system rely’s on the other. However I would like to suggest to unlock your first exp/Credits rank you need to get atlest 3 Trueskill so new players will be encouraged to try competitive Halo, Then newer players can find what sort of Halo they would prefer to play. THIS IS A SUGGESTION FEEL FREE TO COMMENT ON IT
Who is going to be blind
There are a number of users on both side’s of the fence who only want to see Halo “their” way. I ask that if you are thinking of commenting with that sort of suggestion or comment generally that you leave.
Feel free to drop a comment and share your opinions on both #Halo 4 and #TheStateOfTheCommunity
