Drones

I wonder if yammes will make a return would be cool to use the shock rifle on them a bug zapper. Or to have the unsc setup electric based defence against that creating our own bug zapper maybe tesla coil type things

Interesting concepts. Given the Yanme’e generally didn’t seem to have an issue working with Brutes and indeed pre-Schism seemed more common on Brute ships than Huragok I could certainly see them being canonically tied to the Banished. That said, interesting we didn’t see them as part of Banished forces on The Ark.

IIRC they were originally planned to be in 4 but were dropped. I think one of the challenges with them is that, especially on higher difficulties, they are more annoying than anything to fight. It would probably be better in Infinite but in 2, 3 I always felt that they were kind of a PITA rather than fun. But I know people like them and there is precedence so it’s possible. Though I would think they would have shown up in HW2 when the Banished were set up if that was the plan.

That said, given the large amounts of Banished forces on the Ark easy enough to just say they were there but not encountered during missions.

They’s at their most dangerous in cavernous but limited spaces (e.g. caves/the warehouse area in The Storm) which may well make them perfect as an enemy for some of the Forerunner structures or inside Banished bases.

Agreed. The drones are super challenging if you don’t have a precision weapon also.

Yes and no, a turret or SAW can also be very useful for suppression when they’re buzzing you

I hope they return they have always been my favorite species.

I know canonically speaking, the Drones and Engineers were at odds with another because of their conflicting job circles. The Yanme before the discovery of Engineers were the primary workers that repaired ships and general maintenance. I remember reading in a book once how a swarm of Yanme ripped apart an Hurogok out of sheer spite.

I like the Drones simply because they actually make automatic weapons more meaningful in the weapon sandbox. On missions / encounters where I know drones appear, I actually actively seek out Assault Rifles, SMGs, or Machine Gun turrets which I barely use in most encounters since a BR + Plasma Pistol or Power Weapon does the job most of the time.

I would love for them to return, but make them more fun to fight.

That would be more accurate in Halo Reach, however Drones in Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST are susceptible to most weapons, especially in the latter two games. They are also easier to headshot in those two games than in Halo 2, so really you can take them on with anything, although projectile weapons and shotguns have just a bit more difficulty.

I also would like to see the return of the Drones. We haven’t had them in a mainline game since Halo Reach and they were extemely rare there. I would hope they have their additional ranks from ODST as well. As far as I can tell, Halo 2, Halo 3 and Halo Reach only featured the standard Drone, but ODST had Drones of various ranks and colours, including some rare ones with energy shields. It would be nice/interesting if they used more weapons than just plasma pistols and needlers too.
