Driving maps

As a veteran Spartan in the Halo Universe, I love every aspect of every game.
Each and every game so far has had elements that I adored and that inspired me to keep playing.
But one thing has ALWAYS stuck with me.

Driving the Warthog to its limits.

Through every Halo game, I strived to be the very best driver. From learning the physics of the warthog, to landing each and every flip mid combat, to driving each open-space multiplayer map backwards, I became the most compatible driver for the very best gunners. Very seldom did I ever flip, or die by my own error. I had a designated gunner all the way through Halo Reach, also my best friend, we forged practice maps constantly just to earn how to do crazy stunts that would bow enemy minds.

All of this being said, Halo 4 was a MASSIVE weak point for me. The driving mechanics. One in particular. It is IMPOSSIBLE to do a full 360 J-Turn without slowing down almost completely, whereas in previous games, it was completely within reason.

On top of that, Halo 4 seems heavily lacking in maps that allow you to fully utilize the warthog. Sure, forge island has its potential, but there are no community submitted maps. Ragnarok suits me perfectly well, I can easily flow with the map, hit the jumps, and continue mowing through enemies like it’s nothing(Due to practice on Valhalla in Halo 3) but it’s only one map.

I have a STRONG desire for another set of maps that will allow myself as well as others like me to absolutely UNLEASH in full on vehicular warfare like we did on Reach.

This vehicle was not designed into the game to pussyfoot around in narrow canyons, just continuously driving in a circle, or be only utilized fully on Ragnarok. It deserves it’s own map, or map packs. A full on playground where we can kick up the dirt and completely -Yoink- each other up all while having a blast. Something with varying terrain, fully connected, with plenty of places to build momentum, do jumps, places to roll, get hang time, and eat the road in front of it.

Forge World in Reach ALMOST had it right(even though the majority of the maps were horrible), but driving anywhere in Forge Word was a blast. Plenty of varying terrain to play on, riding halfies, doing wheelies, all of the fun stuff.

I am aware that 343i did just recently take control of the franchise and I believe they’ve done an excellent job so far. But this is all I ask. Just one big playground for us Operator types. Somewhere our role in combat can be truly appreciated by our comrades. I don’t feel like it’s much to ask, when plenty of other people are asking for a whole list of changes. Just something fun to play on, and preferably a sandbox style forge map, just so we can make our own small changes.

Please 343 Industries, make this happen. Don’t let my anchor slip :frowning:

Apex, Quarry, and Lockup would be perfect for this, being large vehicle-based maps (though the majority of Lockup is actually built for infantry). Warrens would be good too.

I was pretty sure Apex was going to be for multiplayer, when talks of a new forge map was about.

Harvest is the coolest warthog map. (shows of rare)

I also used to love the Hog but since we can have PP and Styckies in the loadouts it seems that the warthogs only a free double or triple kill.

E1ec7roWave, I agree with you 100%.

I used to pull off those 360 J turns as well in previous games. The best that Halo 4 has allowed me to do is a 180 Reverse J turn; which I have pulled off multiple times in matchmaking. I use it mainly to see what’s behind me and to give my gunner some much needed dodging. (A lot of other drivers don’t take care of their gunners.) I’ve even used that maneuver to evade rocket fire and grenades leaving my enemies with an empty clip and no double kill. They don’t expect you to keep your momentum on such a turn. evil grin

Even with the bad maps and lack of 360 J turn, I still think it has good handling. I also like the new aesthetic body better than any previous version. However, the stuff you pointed out does need to be fixed for Halo 5.

Hopefully they will also add a rear view mirror HUD element or at least a button mapped to it. It is too bad their design philosophy revolves around destruction of vehicles, instead of love for the driver.

I think it would be cool just to have more large maps in general. I’m not a fan of driving, but it would sure be cool to have more large maps where carnage is inevitable.

Although I like the idea of bigger drivable maps like Apex or the back side of the “Seize the Power” SPOPS map, until 343i reduces Sticky Plasma Grenade Load Outs to 0 or 1 maximum - vehicles like the “Wart Hog” are “persona non grata” in H4. You spawn with a up to 3 grenades (via ammo perks) and you and a friend can take down any vehicle (including a Scorpion) in H4 with 2+ tosses each. We don’t’ need vehicles to be buffed, we need Plasama Grenades in Loadouts gone. They can be scattered around the map in singles as in Reach / H3.

I went back to Reach and am finally able to use vehicles as offensive weapons, instead of just driving a “Double Kill Hog” around the map in H4 for everyone to turn into burning wreckage. It’s actually fun to use a vehicle in Reach now.

is is the reason why I got so into the driving. I love maneuvering to avoid stickies and rockets, its a blast, especially when you whip that -Yoink- around and splatter whoever just tried to stick you WHILE completely avoiding damage.

It really is a blast being able to pull off these crazy stunts in a way that is actually useful. I haven’t had an random gunners complain, they always have as much fun as I do. I seldom get stuck(moreso than in previous games), and rockets arent really -Yoink- if I see them lol.
I just love to drive. I hadnt heard much on maps, I work alot so I dont get much time to check on news.

i like the warthog because it come with the gauss gun and rockets as well
