Dr. Halsey doesn't die

Dr. Halsey doesn’t get killed by palmer or ONI, she doesn’t die in halo 5 either. I know this because she gives a speech on reach in 2589, she will probably die sometime in the books, considering she’s 97 at the time of the speech. Just wanted to put this out there for those wondering if she dies.

Unless 343 retcons it as never happening like they retconned the situtation regarding the clones in the Spartan-II Program and Halsey not lying to the Spartan children about their fates. If they want her dead, they’ll find a way.

Another lore issue from Bungie that 343 is going to have to deal with. Why was that eulogy by Halsey even necessary for an epilogue anyway. Making a known character say those lines in the medium-far future is just going to be restrictive. If 343 retcons it by making Palmer kill Halsey with a headshot I wouldn’t mind. The retcon I mean, not the Palmer killing Halsey part. Whether she will/should die and her character in general is a whole other issue.

This is less of an issue than you think because there’s literally nothing in that speech which grounds it in any particular period post-war, except for Halsey saying “we can rebuild”. This could literally have been said at any point after 2553, it wasn’t necessarily said in 2589.

I assumed it was said in 2589 because at that bottom of the screen during the epilogue it says July 7, 2589 and also halo wikia has it stated as one of the dates (I know wikia is not an official source)

They could always pull off a Halo 4 Didact Speech and suddenly reveal that the eulogy occurred in a setting where it doesn’t make remote sense.

343 Industries could officially say that during the closing days of the Human-Covenant War, the speech in question was both a commendation for Spartan-B312 and John-117… which was held sometime prior to the Memorial at Voi… and during 2589, the UNSC finally managed to recover the helmet of Sierra B312.

I am still rather rustled about that…

Please stop.

Also I should point out that, If this is an official speech it means tht she was cleared of her crimes because she would have been killed or prosecuted.

Probably. The fact itself that they let halsey go back to reach (the planet where she lived and worked and founded her legacy) on a UNSC navy ship probably means her future with humanity will be positive.

Don’t forget that there are guidelines for the halo universe, there is a halo bible that establishes generally where the universe is going, so maybe halsey’s story was more or less decided since 10 years ago. I believe that frank saying we will be happy with halsey future is coherent with this epilogue.

For all we know Bungie may have did that on purpose so that 343 wouldn’t kill Halsey off

You do know 343 doesn’t have to follow anything Bungie does, right?

I think he was joking…

If they kill Halsey right, then I will not care about them retconning Halo Reach’s ending. The game has had to be involved with so many other retcons anyway. Still, I like Halsey and hope she does not die. Though I would not be uber depressed if she does bite the dust. Anyway, point is 343 can totally kill her with no problem.

she could still die be composed or become Cortana 2.0 so many ways they could kill her yet keep her alive. same voice actor, love Jen Taylor. still i would hate to think 343 is systematically erasing Bungies contribution to the franchise.

Indeed :stuck_out_tongue: I was joking

Yep. One way is by saying she gave Noble 6’s Eulogy well before 2589.

Not that I want her dead though, Cortana was enough as is.
