Building encounters with co-op play in mind has meant an increase in the density of foes. Because players have more freedom in splitting up and exploring the environment, we can have dozens and dozens of active antagonists, all systemically-driven and reacting in real-time to the world around them. This is where the sandbox nature of Halo really shines.”
After reading Josh’s blog post, what really intrigued me was this ^. This is what Halo really needed to evolve and I am glad they implemented this. Halo needed more intelligent, quicker and more versatile AI. I find that Halo’s difficulty only changed by the amount of damage the enemies do to you and the amount of damage they can take. Knowing that Halo 5 will have improved AI mechanics and additional AI on screen makes me very pleased.
I have always been an advocate of Halo 5 using the xbox one, not for additional polygons and high resolution pixels, but for gameplay. Using the power for a 60fps experience, improvements in AI and team mate functionality is what is needed in my opinion. Glad 343 has addressed that and have innovated not in the graphical department but in the experience department.
I now understand why they would get rid of split screen and Josh reiterated on that. I think sacrificing split screen for an improved experience is justifiable.
BTW, I know some will claim I am a 343 puppet right now or think it but I am just saying what I think. We do not know if these promises will hold up since we have no experienced Halo 5s campaign (the E3 demo was a scripted linear event). I hope what Josh said is sincere and I am very excited for Halo 5!

Everyone is skeptical at this point, but I agree with all you said. Hopefully we won’t get dupped.
I have full confidence that what Josh says is the truth. 343 has to go big or go home, and if they were to introduce a campaign that was extremely similar to past Halos except with new Spartan co-op features, a lot of gamers would be severely let down.

> yea thats y the xbox one has soo much cloud integration. it helps w rendering tons of varied enemies
Would this not make the campaign online only? or would the vast amount of enemies be only for coop campaign? OMG maybe that’s what it is. Single player is a normal Halo experience and coop campaign has the cloud implementation? We need more info. Could be why Frankie says coop is a totally different experience. hmmmm
Hopefully this is not just a play on words. I remember Gears of War 2 claiming there would be hundreds of enemies on the screen at once. That was a very clever play on words. This only happened a couple times and they were basically scripted, non detailed, very tiny, backround enemies.
When they are claiming dozens and dozens, that could be spread out across an entire map. Think of the Covenant level. There were dozens and dozens of enemies on that map too, but never on the screen at the same time. Hopefully its true, always fun being overwhelmed with enemies in games especially as a co-op.
This was a great blog post. I too love how the new AI mechanics will improve difficulty without just become bullet sponges. Also I hope (but I doubt) at the end when Josh is talking about how split screen had to be cut to make all this possible in Halo 5, will ease the pro split screener’s out there. Sometimes things have to be let go and, sacrificed to make improvements for a better future. Just as we do in real life.

Hope it is not the same case. I am banking on more enemies on screen and more intelligent. Here’s to hope!
As long as there is an unlockable Grunt Birthday Party skull, I will happily take on the hordes of Fuel Rod, and suicidal Grunts. With the more versatile AI though I am interested in seeing how Elites take control of a battlefield when you try, and flank them with your team.
