Download issues: Same file being downloaded repeatedly

I’ve come from the Bungie.net Reach and Community forums, where this has been reported to have been occurring for others, so I know this is not an isolated incident.

Report 1
Report 2

I added a gameplay movie file to my download queue last night and since turning my XBOX on a few hours ago, the file has been downloaded about 50 times. Every time I delete it, it downloads again.

Clearing the download queue does not resolve the problem.
Manually deleting the files from HDD does not resolve the problem.
Manually deleting ALL Reach-related files from HDD does not resolve the problem.

Any insights on this from someone in the know?

When you say ALL files, do you mean pretty much deleting EVERYTHING on your HDD or just the Halo related stuff?

Apologies. Just Reach-related files. OP updated.

I know this sounds like a really bad solution but it’s the only thing I could see fixing it.

First, disconnect your Xbox 360 from the internet.
Secondly, go to the dashboard, head to ‘My Xbox’, scroll along to ‘System Settings’ and choose ‘Memory’
Thirdly, highlight your Hard Drive and press Y on it, then choose ‘Format’. This will delete EVERYTHING on your Hard Drive including game saves, it will be like what it was when you first bought it.

If you can, back up any important game saves & profiles to another save device, you can use a usb if it’s a GB or higher in size.

Then once that’s done, reconnect to Xbox LIVE and load up Reach, if the problem is still occurs, please reply back.

That’s pretty drastic, I can’t think of another solution apart from this process. In order.

  • Open Reach- Load file- Sign out of XBL on xbox and on pc.- sign in on pc, goto to bungie.net and clear download queue- Turn on xbox not connected to xbl. Delete the file- Sign in to xbl after restarting console
That may work, but it’s worth a try, before formatting your HDD…

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve got a huge amount of files on my HDD as I’m a serial forger, so I’m taking this opportunity to back them up onto an external device. Only problem is time; I’m gonna have to wait for a new external hard drive to be delivered (just ordered it). Could be a few days…

In the meantime (for others who are experiencing the same problem), I’ve found that after deleting the file, it immediately gets added to your Active Transfers list and gets redownloaded. One way of temporarily resolving this is to go into Active Transfers in the Reach File Browser and cancel the file transfer. This only works until you sign out and sign in again. I’ll post in here again when/if I manage to permanently resolve this issue.

I’m not really looking forward to having to go through this again, so hopefully the underlying issue can be resolved server-side.

UPDATE: Thanks for the additional suggestion Der-Flatulator6. I’ll give that a go and report back with results.

Update: I’ve just gone through the process described by Der-Flatulator6 and the issue is still unresolved. The same file gets added to Active Transfers when I sign in after all that.

It’s starting to annoy me now.

I’ve also cleared the cache on the HDD, but that’s not helped.

Anyone have any other ideas?

This issues been affecting me too, though I have about 8 files doing it, so it’s filling up my fileshare as quick as I can delete them.
Driving me mad.
Tried clearing my HDD of Reach files as well as the whole Bungie.net download list. Nothing seems to help.

So is this over or what?

I would also like to know this, I have been hoping for the OP to reply all day, nothing.

Anyone got any input?

Damn…
Have you tried cancelling from bungie.net whilst you are in solo MM?
