Does anyone else think that the Halo franchise has kind of been going downhill ever since Bungie became independent? I mean, I heard that the MCC was a disaster at release, and that Halo 4 set Halo down a dark path. I can’t say this myself because I don’t have the MCC or Halo 4, but why do you say?
Downhill? Nah. Halo has become more fast-paced, competitive, modern FPS like, and some people don’t enjoy that.
i think you should play the games first

I did say that I don’t really have an opinion on this. This is just what I’ve heard about them from YouTubers like The Act Man, Hokiebird, and a few others

> What about player retention and overall sales? Hundreds of thousands, maybe a million, people left after Reach came out, and a vast majority of the original and “transitioning” fanbase left after Halo 4. Halo 5 kinda fixed the problems of those two games, but people decided they could just play Call of Duty instead since both games are very similar.
Similar how?
The problem occurred when Microsoft asked Bungie to split their devs into two teams after H3, one to develop ODST and one to develop Reach. The devs weren’t happy about this, but Bungie leadership forced it upon the entire company because Microsoft was a managing share holder. Both games came out half–Yoinked!- and the fans were outraged.
The new ban system in Reach was trash (similar to the one in H5) and when people demanded answers Bungie basically said, well the newly split team devised it themselves, deal with it and shut up (I was on the bnet forums since H2, so I was there firsthand to see some Bungie employees posting things like this with their golden text). Their was total mayhem with the mismanagement of Reach and its problems. Bungie got tired of actually doing their job, banned A TON of people on the bnet forums, then shut down the original bnet forums for a while, sold their remaining rights of Halo to 343i and Microsoft, and left saying they weren’t going to discuss Halo anymore with their fans.
343i came in and with the recommendation from Microsoft that they put their own spin on it to move away from Bungie’s problems (that Microsoft had a direct hand in). 343i obliterated everything that people knew and loved from Halo. H4 was a disaster that was basically COD with a Halo skin and people abhorred it. With H4 being a disaster, fans demanded back from Microsoft the ability to play H2 and H3 online (Microsoft forcibly shut down the online servers for H2 and H3 to force people to buy H4). Microsoft feeling the disdain and sales decline from H4 announced that they were kind of pausing 343i’s work on updating H4, so that they can work on creating MCC. MCC was rushed while 343i still hadn’t fixed H4 and MCC was released as a disaster that we all know and remember. Then, 343i announced that they were working on H5 instead of entirely fixing MCC and H5 came out basically playing like Halo 4 2.0.
All in all, I would say that after H3, the mismanagement of Bungie and 343i by Microsoft, as well as Bungie and 343i turning a blind eye to issues players had with the games (technical and personal) caused the decline of the franchise.
Initially I thought 343i did okay with MCC because it was so difficult to produce, but after getting banned the other night in H5 for no reason, I can see why people can’t stand 343i anymore…there are so many issues with their games and they just don’t get around to fixing them, while continuing to change the franchise with every following title release.
What made managing Reach even more problematic was that Bungie, with Microsoft’s insistence, continued to use only one half of their dev team to manage the game, which was impossible for such a vast venture. However, Bungie also didn’t really care to begin with because after they released Reach, they began working on Destiny, which became their only care in the world (which also was a disaster lol).
Halo is on a massive decline. I already posted a long thread about why I’m leaving the Halo games. So I’m not gonna repeat myself, I’m just gonna say that yes, what you are hearing it true, it started in Halo 4 and has only gotten worse.
Halo 5 was my first Halo game after my 10-year hiatus from Halo 2, and I can honestly live with what 343 have brought to the table. I’m not saying that Halo 5 is the best (it’s personally fun as hell for me), but I can personally overlook its shortcomings with ease and live with it.
I don’t care about the “Golden Triangle” bullcrap and whatnot, I simply just want to play Halo again and make my inner child happy again. After all, I went online for the first time back in May 2016.

Halo has been slowly trending downward since Halo: Reach. Halo 4 caused many fans to be upset and sped up the trend. Halo 5 made some corrections and put Halo 5 more towards the right direction. However, Halo 5 being released as an unfinished product, lack of gametypes, poor overall UI and functionality, and new style gameplay has still alienated much of the veteran base and caused Halo 5 to have less interest than previous entries. The ship is sinking slowly, but 343 needs to step up for Halo 6 or its over for many.
No. Play the games and you’ll see why. There are certain differences and plenty of dislikes but the franchise hasn’t gone downhill.
It’s decreased a little, maybe. But I still enjoy it more than COD in my opinion.
It has decreased a little but the new style gameplay is needed to keep up with all the other games, it’s a rough road but Overall, i think Halo is doing fine, or better then what some people think it is
It is downhill because of the controversy that’s been going on. While some people might like the new fast paced gameplay, some others don’t. Many people didn’t like the campaign, many people don’t like the multiplayer. The community is split in almost half and that is very bad for any franchise, and the worse part is that most likely 343 won’t be able to please everyone with their next title so the franchise is not going to be able to grow.
It is on a definite decline. Returning the franchise to its roots in terms of gameplay(by getting rid of the sprinting and the abilities) is something I would see as a massive improvement.
