Doubles is a Scattershot Squat-Fest

I’m unsure if this is a community-driven thing, but it seems Doubles has de-volved into crouching with the Scattershot on any given map and just holding it out the entire game. Since when has any ranked playlist in the Halo series been so dubious to this? I understand it’s “part of the game” and camping is always rampant, but damn near every map that features the Scattershot are the worst when it comes to this. Am I wrong in suggesting that CQC power weapons be removed? I’m seriously stricken by the lack of gameplay that comes from this playlist just because people would rather watch a corner for 10 minutes.

Please, consider removing the weapon or kill the radar. It’s boring and frustrating at the same time.

I don’t play much dubs, but I’ve watched it and I agree for the most part. Camping in corners with a shotty and using radar is a sometimes useful, but totally annoying part of the game. It’s best combated with good communication in a team of four. Most places on the map are at least partly visible and when they aren’t it helps to have a team mate call out that someone has shotty and might be crouching. When the team numbers get reduced it get’s harder to visually cover the whole map with call outs. Then you’re subject to searching for the enemy, or waiting, depending on the score and your aggressiveness. 343 has also forced many maps into play lists that they are not suited for, and that exacerbates problems like yours. Corner camping is a PITA in FFA.

I find myself doing a lot of crouch walking lately when I get caught alone, especially on vertical maps like Mercy. If I see two or three opponents on radar grouped together right above me, why should I expose myself to them?

Maybe a change so when you crouch and hide from radar your own radar is also disabled? That would be more fair, but they’ll never change it. We just spit in the wind on these forums.

I agree as well. I don’t really have that problem much in 4v4’s or BTB because there’s so much more going on that someone is usually already damaged or trying to avoid getting hit so they’re always moving and on-the-go. In Doubles, you can only do and see so much at any given point, which literally makes ANY corner a viable option to squat at. I wouldn’t be so adamant about it if the entirety of each Doubles match plays like this. I never want to play it because I’m literally wasting 10 minutes of gaming to win or lose matches that have scores of like 10-15 points per team. It slows the game down too much and makes the game even more stale than it already is with a lack of gametype variety.

Camping doesnt work well in halo, anyone who has ever tried camping against me has failed misrably, I just nade them out of wherever their hiding.

And if you approach with your teamate correctly you dont even need to use nades.

I’d say those people just aren’t that good at camping if you already know they’re in a particular spot, especially if said spot is very commonly camped. That’s just not smart on their part.

Anyway, due to maps being severely downsized in Halo 5, most are actually the perfect size for Doubles. And this facilitates camping, especially on maps where there’s a Shotgun or Scattershot. You don’t have to go out of your way to track down and kill the other team because, more likely than not, they’ll eventually walk by where you’re posted up. Doubles is probably the only game type where an aggressive playstyle will almost always cause you to lose the game, especially if you have a teammate that insists on running off on his own.

2 can play at that game, camping can only be done if your ahead in the game, If the enemy is they dont have to come to you.

Also Im not perfect at getting rid of campers, they usually get like 1 kill on me before i change my playstyle to counter them.

Thrusters make fighting close range weopons alot easier than before, also an smg or storm rifle can easily beat the scattershot if your right outside of its one shot kill range.

i dont know any spot that is so tiny that you have to go point blank to kill your target, and any of the spots that come close are really vounrable to grenades,

Stickys and plasmas can counter them hard aswell,

CQC weapons are fine, but they cant be allowed to dominate the map. ONE clip of a shotgun spawning every 180 to 200 is optimal.

I can agree with just about everything you said except for the map size. I think it’s pretty well known that H5 maps have been intentionally scaled up to accommodate for sprint (gags violently). Before Doubles even became a game mode quite a few people -Yoinked!- that the maps were too big for Doubles. Just look at Truth. It is enormous compared to Midship. There isn’t a single map in H5 that I would consider small compared to previous Halo games.

Doubles is one of my favorite game modes and definitely one of the most hardcore. There are plenty of strategies to combat campers. Good communication and coordinated attacks almost always work and a reliable teammate definitely helps. If your running around lone wolf style in Doubles your asking to get your face shot off.
