Double XP Helped Halo 5 A TON!

So here’s something interesting.

Last month I saw a post stating that Halo 5 would have double XP in all modes to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the game. I used to really enjoy the game, and as of now I’m pushing for Champion with my team. However, the main reason I, any many of my friends, came back to Halo 5 was because it made S152 seem achievable again. I’ve racked up almost 100 days on Halo 5 and although I’ve made it to a moderately high level I was only about 16% of the way to max rank. That just doesn’t seem right.

I worked out that it would take just under 40 full days to get to max rank, that’s 960 hours we have to play non-stop to be able to hit S152. I worked out it would take just under 235 days if I played about 4 hours every day, that’s just insane! It’s barely achievable if you have a job and boosts were included in working this total out.

With double XP now off, most people I know have given up on the dream of reaching max rank and the player base appears to be slowly disappearing once again, so what am I suggesting?

Well, quite simple really. Make it so double XP is a permanent thing leading up to Halo Infinite. The difference is fairly small however makes it so the goal is more achievable. I don’t see this as taking anything away from the players who have already reached S152, instead I see this as a way 343i could keep Halo 5 alive with more players and reward the loyal fans who have invested days into their game. Either that, or have more events where we can get more XP. Triple or Quad XP event modes would be great to have as I know it would bring in a ton of players. Or they could add a new challenge like Targetmaster which actually awards a decent chunk of XP.

I’m already aware I’ll get a few comments saying S152 is an exclusive club, but so is Champion and I don’t see them giving out any rewards for those players. Infact, it would be amazing if they added a challenge like Targetmaster, but for competitive play. Reach a certain rank and get awarded XP. 1000 for Bronze, 2000 for Silver, 5000 for gold, 10000 for plat, 20000 for diamond, 50000, 100000 for onyx, 500000 for Champion, and have it reset every season. It’s either that or give us a reward for what we achieved.

Dunno how many people will agree or disagree, whatever it is just keep it civil and enjoy your day!

I’m all for players getting more 2XP events to celebrate occasions but like you’ve mentioned and I’ve commented about this numerous times on forums in recent history a permanent 2XP boost or higher would annoy a lot of 152 players like myself. 152 is a time dedication and I think it should stay that way. If 343i want to make it slightly easier like they have been that’s fine but handing it out to everyone is a no no.

I believe that having XP packs and 2XP events is perfectly fine as it’s not a permanent increase. You have to make the most of the time it’s available.

Honestly it’s easier to get to 152 now than is has been in the past. Mythic FF is permanent, there have been numerous 2XP events in the last few months & XP Packs are available in game on occasion or full time online in the store.

I guess people really don’t do any searching or scrolling through the forums before they post a topic. Since this hasn’t been seen enough in the other four or five posts, so I guess I’ll have to throw it in here too:

I absolutely have no issue with 343 having the occasional 2xp event every so often (which is something they’ve been doing for years by the way). I have no issue with adding playlists with xp bonuses (they already do that with mythic firefight and rotational playlists). But where you lose me is right when you suggested they make double xp permanent. It’s a slap in the face to all the players who have already suffered through countless hours playing various matches to attain xp to get to 152. Not sure how you’re playing or what playlist you’re in, but I am up to 149 in 25 days of gameplay. One of my friends hit 152 a few months back, I checked his stats and it took him roughly 72 days of gameplay and almost 10,000 matches. Now I say all this because in the last 5 years, 343 has not done anything extraordinary to make sure players hit 152. Sure they’ve done their birthday surprises, anniversary bashes and holiday presents for us. And that’s all fine and good… but to sit here and say that since Infinite is coming out and there’s a ton of people who put a lot of time but haven’t made it to 152 yet, so please more the goal post… is cheapening the trinkets you get for hitting 152. Too many people are already not that impressed with what you get for 152… you get an emblem in Halo 5, and because getting 152 is such a big ask, 343 has decided to reward you with some cosmetic rewards in Infinite. Again, the reason they’ve decided to give rewards across two games is because it’s such a big ask. 343 want to reward those who have spent a lot of time in their games. And there’s something to be said about the people who play the same game that long, and they should be rewarded. Moving the goal post this late in the game’s lifespan is does an incredible disservice to those who have come before about already hit 152 and I believe will end up doing more harm than good. I think if 343 were to pull a stunt like that, I think there will be a massive backlash from those who attained 152 before… and that will lead to a bigger population drop than you would get from making it easier to hit 152. The people who hit 152 are still here and playing the game, if you change the rules and alienate those long-term fans of the game, the people still here going for 152 because it’s easier, will cut bait and run once they hit max rank, leaving the game’s population virtually non-existent. Plus, I don’t see there being a big push to make it easier to hit max rank in any of the other halo games (especially those on the 360 that are sunsetting later this year).

With regards to 2xp being a big population draw, I don’t see that being a thing either. I haven’t noticed much of a change in the Halo 5 population at all this past month (and it’s been double xp all month). I honestly think you’re seeing a population draw more because people got the game for the holidays, and also because of the introduction of master chief in fortnite. Otherwise, I haven’t noticed much of a difference in my wait times for certain playlists. For 343, their big push right now is MCC, and that’s where everyone is hanging out. I don’t think 343 cares where players are hanging out as long as it’s in a Halo title. They’ve already made it clear where their priorities lie when it comes to title updates and changes to games. Halo 5 hasn’t gotten squat in years, whereas MCC gets updates and fixes virtually every quarter… so I honestly think 343 does care much for Halo 5 anymore… people are here, they’re doing there thing… and 343 is happy right where they are.
