The armor has microphones on the helmet so if they want a moment to think they can literally turn of their ears
The armor protects from the sound. Obviously several inches of titanium alloy is going to be nice and soundproof.
Outside the armor though, I think they can go deaf just like any other human, just not as easily. I know S-IIIs are susceptible to flashbang grenades.
Remember, in the Halo universe: Your Spartan has super advanced armor, can’t be phased by the sounds of gunshots/explosions/tank/rockets being fired constantly, but yet somehow can’t swim in 4 feet of water without dying.

Isn’t that only because most were equipped with SPI and not full MJOLNIR?

Even with a dingy flotation device, the teaspoon of water still wins.
It’s explained in some of the books, there are some auditory manipulation gizmos that make gunshots no louder than if they were hearing them through speakers.

Seeing as how heavy there armor would be added with there won body added with grenades added on top of the weapons they are carrying it makes since to why they can’t swim but we still can’t walk a an inch into water without drowning.
