The open beta for doom has been live since midnight last night, but I’ve yet to play it until I get home from work today. I also pre ordered the game over XBL last night. What are your guys’ thoughts on the gameplay?
From the multiplayer gameplay I’ve seen it looks like an exciting arena style shooter, like unreal tournament.
This is a HALO forum on a HALO website. There should be no threads about other games here, unless it’s related to halo in some way. (Like a comparison between Halo and another game, or something like that.)
And XBOX related topics so that means Doom counts as long as he is on about the xbox version it is in fair use of the forum guide lines.

Let’s not be so melodramatic. This is a video game forum which has established rules of conduct which if broken are subject to administrative action.
Hmm, this thread seems a bit off topic seeing it isn’t really about a general Xbox topic. It’s about Doom. Hopefully a moderator can tell us definitively if this is grounds for lock or not.
I personally haven’t played the beta, but look forward to the campaign.
I would like to point out that it is against the forum rules to discuss other games, but anyway, Im enjoying the Doom beta so far. Not really much else to say.

I thought it felt mediocre. Advertised as an arena shooter, it just feels weird. Not like in the Halo 5 sense where people think its a copy of CoD, but in a weird way where different aspects of other games are in Doom. Like the taunts at the end of the matches are straight out of Black Ops 3. Some of the assassinations look like they were taken right out of Halo. The damage indicators feel very Borderlands, but the fact that they dont add up to 100 feels even weirder. The loadouts, perks, and random damage indicators dont help either.
The gameplay is very Doom, but I was never a big fan of that gameplay. Some guns feel incredibly weak (Rocket Launcher), and the high BMS combined with insanely small maps was never my cup of tea.

Thanks for weighing in, Snickerdoodle.
Somhow is the beta folks? I have a policy where I don’t play non-halo betas. I would love to know how Doom plays. It looks… generic. Like Quake 4, which I played relatively extensively.

From what I have seen, the game plays more like Quake than Doom. A lot of what Doom looks like now reminds me more of Quake 3. The multiplayer looks really generic taking from a lot of different modern sources, but never really cementing its own flair. Aside from the demon pick ups, all the power ups have been ripped out of Quake.
I downloaded it yesterday. Tried it for an hour and subsequently uninstalled it. Personally it felt bland. I was hyped for it too which further added to my disappointment. Its a bit like being offered a Sunday Roast and end up getting an MRE instead.
I did play 1 & 2 on PS1 many moons ago. And again 3 on PS3. I’d have to see the Twitch feeds when its released to see if the released copy fairs any better.

Um, the best I can explain it is… it does not play like Halo, but it also doesn’t play like Doom should. It plays like a hybrid between Halo, Call of Duty, and Doom/Quake/UT. I liked it, it was the most fun I’ve had playing a video game in a long time. But there are major issues with it. Think of it like this; DOOM (2016) is trying to do to the Doom Franchise what Halo 4 (and to a lesser extent, Halo 5) was doing to Halo back, trying to appeal to the mainstream Call of Duty bro while keeping some of the gameplay that made Doom what it was. I don’t particularly like the weapon loadouts as it goes against what arena shooters should be, and I don’t like the two weapon limit at all, as that goes against what made Doom great. I mean, there is a meme on the internet about the fact that Doomguy carries 10 weapons at once, including some rather large and heavy weapons.
As it own thing, it works. It was fun, some of the weapons need to be buffed but it was fun. But as a Doom game, trying to fill the boots of the original Doom and Doom 2, it is going the route of Doom 3, mainstreaming the game while pushing away the fanbase that liked it in the first place. I’m convinced that it will keep a population, and maybe a good sized one at that, but trust me, people are going to criticize it for not being what Doom should be.
