Don't waste resources on Grifball

Grifball is not fun. For some reason, friendly fire is enabled so accidental betrayals happen ALL THE TIME! In addition, enemies can spawn kill all they want.

Grifball is a frustrating gamemode because of these two things. I have played every Grifball mode from H3 to H5. I have hated it every single time.

Either fix this gamemode for Halo Infinite or don’t implement the gamemode. Simple as that

EDIT: I know I may seem a little harsh on the gamemode but I want to see Grifball improved. It can be fun sometimes. It’s just that the negatives are very apparent. I find it odd that 343 Industries is willing to fix/refresh playlists (add new maps/freshen up existing maps, add new game modes to a playlist) but leave Grifball with Friendly Fire On and the ability to mass spawn kill.

My favourite memories of Grifball have been playing it with friends in Custom Games, not Matchmaking. Solo queuing Grifball is not fun unless you match with a team of three who carry you to victory. I know what that makes me look like in terms of skill but it’s the truth.

Or maybe keep the game mode for those who enjoy it and you don’t have to play it. That can work too.

Thing is, I WANT to play Grifball. Some games are fun. Usually those are the ones where one of my teammates is spawn killing the enemy. Just turn off friendly fire and give players spawn protection.

I can agree that the mode might need some revamping; but outright removing it seems harsh. It’s been a part of the series for a long time, and has been a running RvB joke for longer. Don’t think many fans would be in favor of it not being included in Infinite.

If H5 Grifball was your only experience with Grifball, then don’t fret because it was easily the worst implementation of the game mode. I’d be miles away from my teammates and swing away only to end up wrecking half my team and maybe one enemy. It’s awful in H5 which is why I never played it after those few craptastic matches. I’m hoping they make it a fun mode again like it was in prior games.

But regardless, there are lot of people who like Grifball and it should be there for them. However bad it was in H5, I think it sucks they removed it as a permanent playlist because there are players who solely played Grifball since it was their favorite mode.

It certainly does need an overhaul…since it did seem heavily unbalanced. I’ve been in games where I destroyed teams like they were nothing then I’ve been in games where it’s physically impossible to get any kills because of the poor hit registration.

Not sure how they’d approach this in Halo Infinite…the only solution I can think of is turning off friendly fire and physic’s to avoid players throwing players across map.

To be fair as far as resources go I doubt grifball takes up very much. The mode is extremely simple and you don’t need complicated maps. However the more modes = more population split and as I don’t care for grifball at all I’d say take it out.

I said in my original post I have played all the Grifballs. I just find it mind-boggling that Friendly Fire is still on after all these years.

Yeah true. The Hammer in H5 has a large area of effect that really doesn’t work well for Grifball. I think the mode would be totally fine in H5 if they turned off friendly fire. Rift Ball, for instance, is one of the coolest game modes I have ever played and a large reason for that is because friendly fire is turned off. It allows for matches to be insanely chaotic and fun.

I’d say Grifball works well in other games with friendly fire on simply because of how the Gravity Hammer works in those games.

Why don’t they just keep all the MP modes from H5 make this and some other modes like action sack permanent?

Nah. I find it very fun the way it is. Having a spawn grace period of invincibility is unfair and can keep the team from scoring because you can kill them and they can’t kill you. Also I wouldn’t be opposed to turning off team killing but I don’t mind it either. It adds more chaos into a chaotic game

The best solution for nixing spawn killing is probably to place spawn points just out of reach of leaping/lunging enemy players. This way each team can spawn without regular threat of being mowed down immediately and they can even choose which way they want to jump to return to the field (however, perhaps adding a soft kill barrier should be in order so the team doesn’t just decide to sit up on the pedestals leaving their team mates in a 1/2/3v4 situation)

People actually think having friendly fire disabled would make things worse which confuses me.

Yeh that makes zero sense to me. I only play grifball with people I know bc I don’t want to be team killed.

Possibly because then the friendlies can troll team mates by batting them around with the hammer? Honestly, there is no sure fire way to make any game mode perfect, you’re always going to have that one player who’s out to ruin everyone else’s fun. That’s kind of why the report button exists and sure, while one report might not do anything, if they are that big of a problem on a regular basis, then eventually it’s kinda guaranteed that they’ll be taken care of for the time being.

Please give me the ability to flowers the grifball over everyones head… ready and ready and ready and jump!

had better vids on my bungie account back in the day but the dumped them :frowning:

Either way as it is now if someone betrays too much they get kicked. I still would rather friendly fire to be turned off and risk getting batted by teammates.

Grifball is supposed to be a silly and fun game. It’s utterly boring when there’s no betrayals (yes I know there are always those trolls)

It doesn’t need to be changed in my eyes. Hell Halo 4 grifball is actually super fun since you can pass it.

Just leave it as it is. I doubt much time really goes into considering that it isn’t really that complex a game mode.
