New to the forums here and I figured I’d start off with something that’s probably widely controversial…
I was pumped for Reach. It seemed amazing. It was, for the first day or two. As time went on I realized that, in its own light and aspect, Reach is a pretty good game. But it’s just not HALO. Bungie incorporated armor abilities which catered to the casual gamers, at least more so than usual. This ticked off the hardcore players, most of which sold the game or don’t play anymore because they, like me, cannot accept it as something Halo. The casuals soon left as well for the release of the latest COD game. It’s true. This leaves little to no players (in retrospect) who actually still play the game.
Same story for Gears 3. Gears 1&2 were great games (the multiplayer was a little buggy, but this is beside the point). Gears 3’s addition of the sawed-off shotgun into multiplayer made the game extremely easy to get kills and be “good” at. Especially with Gears, whose community is MUCH more notoriously hardcore than Halo and especially COD, this ticked off the hardcore players and they left. And the casuals left to play whatever was hitting the shelves soonest.
I would hate to see such catering to casual players ruin the player count and experience of Halo 4, such an iconic franchise. Halo 3 always had hundreds of thousands of players online at any given time. The same holds true for Gears 2. There are now no more than one hundred thousand on at any time on Reach and no more than 60k on Gears 3.
Halo has always been a very diverse community - you can play hardcore if you’d like, and for fun if you’d like. But by catering to one side, you ruin the other’s experience and that was the downfall of Reach. Whatever you choose to do with armor abilities / ranking system 343(I, among many others of course, prefer to totally rid the game of AA’s and the dreaded credits system), I beg you to try and keep a conscientious head about what exactly you’re doing. I have faith in you!
I would actually say it’s the other way around for GOW and that gears 2 was the low point of the franchise and that Gears 3 fixed alot of the problems. But I do hope that they consider removing or changing some of the things added in Reach that caused alot of people to leave Halo.
im sure 343 have herd a million times over all the things people didnt like in halo reach and how reach didnt feel quite like a proper halo game. it was a great game dont get me wrong but it just wasnt a great halo game.
Id say from just looking at how they handeld reach once they took the horns of reach , the title update, changing things people complained about ect. The last thing there going to do is bring those things back again.
As much as id like halo 4 to be all fresh and new everything. Its a new trilogy its been awhile since we seen chief and i think they will play a little on the safe side. But as long as they safer side feels like halo we have grown to love then its all good
I disagree with you on Gears of War, sadly for Halo Bungie never fixed Armor Lock and kept adding broken playlists while Epic actually nerfed the SOS and added quite a few gametypes without it.
OMG seriously. STOP BLAMING THE AA’s FOR LOW PLAYER COUNT IN REACH.
Now that my caps lock button is off, i’ll explain: reach lost player count because of glitches, and poor matchmaking. Thats it. People get sick of dieing for no good reason due to one person seeing on screen completely different to the other (don’t believe me, get a full lobby of race with people from other continents and share the gameplay footage. you’ll find it is all different). Glitches like bulltrue where you still die (bulltrue used to mean you killed the person lunging at you, so how come you still die?). Poor matchmaking conditions where you float, bounce from spot to spot, get constant blackscreens, get left on blackscreen while the rest of the lobby keeps going (gets really old dieing 10 times while left on blackscreen). Unfair skill matching (I’m a noble at the moment. I played a game of reach with other similarly high ranks, we got matched with recruits, sargents and I think the highest ranked opponent was a warrent officer. I know rank doesn’t equal skill all the time, but we absolutely slaughtered them. How would you feel if your first time on a game you got matched with high ranks and got slaughtered??). AA’s are not the problem, poor matchmaking, debugging, and people who complain instead of adapt are.
Just because its not Halo3 doesnt mean “its not Halo”. Thats got to be the dumbest thing you kids put in these threads. If it wasnt Halo, it wouldnt have anything to do with the Halo universe. Thats like someone saying Black ops isnt CoD because it doesnt have a nuke or ac130.

I do agree, but Halo 3 has the same problems, EXACT same problems

At least Halo Reach has a better netcode…
All the Halo games were really glitchy to be honest…
> Gears 3’s addition of the sawed-off shotgun into multiplayer made the game extremely easy to get kills and be “good” at.
The Sawed Off is extremely limited. Virtually every aspect aside about it aside from the skill less point blank kills is a con. Even then it’s not seeing much widespread use.

Including after it lost top spot on the XBL activity charts to CoD?
I’ll ignore the irony that is asking for 343 to increase the player count by making the game more competive as if player counts are an actual merit of objective standards. Or that CoD, the most played game, is the most casual.
And last I heard, Reach was doing better than H3 was.
Halo Reach is a good game compared to games outside the halo franchise, Bungie just tried to change to much and they could have hit with it but they didn’t, It’s really a very good game compared to what is out there now. The only problem is it can get annoying at times with AAs, bloom, and the fact you don’t move and jump like MC.
@Shaun0fTh3D3ad
If you don’t like AA’s, bloom etc, play the TU playlist or get the anniversary map pack.
Just because you don’t move like MC doesn’t mean its a bad thing(opinion), ODST didn’t have Spartans playable(in campaign) and it was a good game.(opinion)

I said reach was a good game and I have everything you can possibly get for halo Reach dlc wise, I started playing BF3 recently and it made me realize that reach isn’t so bad we are just spoiled as halo fans. And in ODST you were a marine not a spartan you are a spartan in reach so I expected to move like one. IMO
Sorry to burst your bubble, but no matter how much someone denies it, Halo: Reach is a Halo game and not just because it has “Halo” in the title, either.
they just need to steer clear of weapons/mechanics that are incredibly easy to use, (while doing the same damage output as a weapon that requires relative skill), and that disrupt the gameplay flow (not including power weapons). That doesn’t mean I want a game that is purely “classic halo”. I mean yeah, it’s fun, but it’s about time we see something new and entertaining to play.

In ODST you play as an ODST. A marine isnt even close to an ODST, a marine is pretty much cannon fodder. You play as a Spartan3 in Reach, which were a lot younger and smaller than Spartan2’s (master chief), and so to compensate for the slow run speed, spartan3s sprint.

thats why i still think the search filter idea i have is so great. Because it solves problems like this. you choose servers to use that are nearby and you cut down lag greatly too. that and many other things my halo 4 search filter has.
