Don't remove the tank gun! 343 needs to reconsider

Rude.

I’ve provided sources before.
Remember when you asked about all that cut Halo 4 DLC Map Pack content that you requested sources for and I provided at least twenty sources?

Pretty much yeah.
343 Industries was focusing most of its effort in the development of Halo 5 Guardians at the time, so they had essentailly a skeleton crew working on making a system that “seamlessly” merges Halo CE, Halo CE Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3 ODST Campaign, and Halo 4.

It worked… for the campaign.
As for the multiplayer however, good luck on finding a single match whatsoever.

And then to add on top of all of that, they had DLC and pre-order content that was later patched in to be available at default.

  • Skulls that were already in previous games being pre-order bonuses depending on what edition or what retailer you bought it from. Pinata, Grunt Funeral, Bandana, Bonded Pair, Boom, and Feather skulls.
  • Relic Anniversary / Remnant Map was a bonus item that was later made free for all players in an update

Basically, screw you if you pre-ordered the game or bought the limited edition; because now all you get in the LE is a fancy game case and a statuette.

We don’t know if it’d show up in dlc if they leave it alone. You’re making assumptions here.

Not necessarily. That would only be true if there was some kind of competition involved.

Take Bungie’s Worlds First raid event for every new raid. Using exploits would be considered cheating and is grounds for disqualification. In Halo, there’s no such thing so there’s no need to patch it.

In fact, this tank gun is simply a skull but just doesn’t know it yet. I mean, is it any different from Halo 2’s scarab gun?

You know it would be easier to just add in an update that makes it so you don’t get LASO achievements when you pick up the scorpion gun?
That can allow for the achievements to remain legitimate AND for the players that want to just have fun with it to HAVE FUN WITH IT.

Wait what, they’re removing the gunner seat?

Literally why? Please stop letting literal children who try to charge down a tank with their ARs dictate in-game decisions for everyone else. Jesus.

No they are talking about the invisible tank gun you can pick up early in the campaign.

Not exactly. There’s a hidden turret in outpost tremonius (level) that when fired, has the same effects as the scorpion main gun. Even has the same aiming reticle. Apparently they plan on removing it in S2 because some people have a problem with a weapon that wasn’t supposed to exist but doesn’t negatively impact the game. People mostly seem to want it gone so LASO is challenging but LASO is already easier than any other title even without the scorpion gun. You don’t have the iron skull and you have the bandanna skull which doesn’t turn off achievements either. You can literally just equip a squad of marines with M41 SPNKR launchers with or without tracking capabilities, sentinel beam guns, skewers, or S7 snipers and just use mass fire power.

Problem is since it’s a bug as a result of unintended interactions within the code/scripting it would most likely have to be patched to prevent further errors from happening, then added back in as an intended feature with proper coding/scripting to enable the feature to work like the “cheat” skull modifiers in the MCC as an example like the Scarab or Acrophobia Skulls.

I mean, isn’t that what developers do? Patch and code stuff?

There is a skull that give you infinite ammo. That itself already breaks your game from top to bottom. The game lets you earn all achievements while that skull is active. Removing the tank gun is just dumb at this point.
Bungie back in the day would have kept this gun in under the philosophy of “people are having fun with this, taking this out would remove content and fun away from people to buy the game later.”

With the lack of Iron Skull in addition to the Bandanna Skull needed to be active for LASO…This achievement already means little to nothing, with or without the tank gun. Plus all the level skips.

Unless they start the DLC with a mission/cutscene that makes you lose your guns in the start.

I know what you mean it definitely should should stat in the game in I had some ideas for some other special weapons they could put in the game bring back the scarab gun of course and my idea was what I call the mining gun it would obviously look like the laser there at the dig site and if nothing else they could make all three of these weapons skulls if they wanted to and I think the weapons should have a model for them as well because the only disadvantage with the invisible gun is that you can’t throw grenades or grab ledges

I would be inclined to believe that since it’s a tied to a difficulty that is meant to be one of the highest tiered challenges in the title tied to a “Rare” status achievement, using an glitch to make ease of this feat is exploitative.

Competition or not, there is precedent in other titles that remove exploitative cheeses that don’t necessarily have anything to do with direct competition like Destiny, Borderlands, CoD, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect among many many others just for the sake of keeping things the way they were intended to play.

It’s purely speculation to think this considering the narrative paints it as an unintended glitch.

The Scarab Gun doesn’t rely on coding/scripting errors and entirely on game mechanics however out of the box they may seem. In fact there was a second method of acquisition (swordfly) which was a glitch that was patched out, while the banshee method was left in as it didn’t rely on exploiting errors within the game.

The Scarab Gun was also confirmed several years later as an intentional Easter Egg as a reward for player exploration that Bungie had anticipated.

Honestly if they’re removing it to make LASO harder, it’s not really going to have any real impact for the reasons you just listed. I could understand if it was to avoid impacting other things unintentionally but even so, there’s other solutions available.

Yes, but I’m making an effort to paint a difference from simply modifying the glitch as it is, and adding in intentionally.

Making a modification to a glitch could exacerbate the unseen ramifications of the glitch if left as is. Adding it back in intentionally after tweaking the scripting and code allows for a controlled integration that reduces the likelihood of negative interactions, or allows for visibility if negative interactions pop up.

Did 343 actually say why they were going to remove the scorpion gun? I’m curious.

Yup, just recently. I forget who tweeted about it, but it came from 343.

Should be gone sometime within season 2.

Do we know if it is to make LASO harder or to avoid unintentional interactions with other bits of code?

Just that it is being labeled a glitch, most likely unintentional given the nature of “glitches”.

I would not mind if the were to change the game so that the tank gun disabled achievements. This feels more like a removal of content rather than a fix to a glitch. What’s next, removing the glitch so we can’t fly the pelican? This is a real party pooper move.

Wait, we can do that? Last time I saw a glitch/Easter egg like that was reach.
