Don't remove the tank gun! 343 needs to reconsider

Interesting you chose to not reply to the initial reason I called you out after submitting examples of repeatable unintended byproducts of game development and player ingenuity, but I’ll take that as a concession for that point.

Yeah makes Easy mode a ridiculously fun powertrip, and holds your hand careening through a LASO run meant to be the hardest challenge in the title.

My guy, suggesting that it doesn’t derail the intended challenge of the title is asinine. This glitch is quite literally recommended in full by the masses to make an easy run of the hardest challenge in the entire game.

“Fun” isn’t the only reason it’s being used. Don’t gaslight me, or worse yourself.

Their name is on it alongside the website the changelog is featured on. It’s clear that 343 has some hand in the choices made for MCC whether it was outsourced or not.

Saber or CA could’ve made the move on their part, but 343 had to sign off on it because they’re the publisher.

How tf is every single one of your takes bad?

If they’re concerned about people breezing through LASO with the tank gun …then disable achievements when you pick it up

I can’t fathom that out of all the things in the campaign that could be “fixed”, they chose this.

I’m gonna’ tell you now, never ask Rambo for a source.

Oh cool so we can blame them for the horrid state MCC launched in.

idk, why reply?

I love it. Maybe they can remove the campaign after this update because it’s also buggy as hell. Maybe also remove the multiplayer while they’re at it?

Truly glorious. I don’t have to pay for entertainment because 343 delivers on that front very reliably :grinning: :facepunch: :joy:

Scarab gun in Halo 2 was only in 1 mission and was an easter egg unlike in Halo infinite there you can use it through entire campaign and most likely the story dlc when they come out if they didnt remove it.

Can you save or use the autosave feature with the tank gun? I wonder what would happen if you had a save file with you using it after the Season 2 update?

That being said I firmly believe it shouldn’t be removed. Yeah, okay, it’s a bug, but unless you’re going to heavily nerf the Sentinel Beam which also makes LASO a breeze when you can give it to several marines and load up a Razorback (especially with the Bandana Skull), there is not that much different between the two.

It did not make it any easier than having bandanna as a required skull. This is a good example of where I think achievements can hurt a game, removing something that many people are enjoying, glitch or not just to protect an arbitrary number doesn’t feel like the right call to me.

No I agree that removing something fun is not the answer. Heck attempting the glitches and speedrunning tactics in the MCC halos is some of the best fun I’ve had in halo campaign.

But I also think that they need to protect the skill ceiling. You need to have it so that I can’t defeat the hardest achievement of halo in a 7 hour run.

But I agree that the fix that should have been administered back in December should have been to make it so that holding the gun at any point disables achievements.

The only way that I could understand them removing it at this point is if it would have negative affects on the DLC expansions they have planned on the Zeta halo.

Well the tan gun in general has unlimited ammo that are strong enough to 1 shot any enemies in the game.

On LASO it sends enemy up to space and they die from fall damage. And was far more effective then then sentinel beam and rockets. And general the weapon makes LASO feel easier then easy.

But i dont agree that they should remove it. Make it harder to get it or unlock the ability to pick it up by completing the game on Legendary or LASO similar to how you unlocked the hand cannon in Dead Space 2.

Honestly I was finally happy that they did a laso that was not frustrating but a little easier than the others, and maybe even a bit of fun with the scorpion gun … please don’t remove it, it’s just as much a part of the game as the rest. Now the people who got the achievement in the beginning were lucky, but there are so many things to fix and you fix the one that doesn’t go right? idk what to say

Seconded, don’t remove it. Absolutely baffled given the general opinion regarding Halo Infinite’s current state, the less than stellar content of the upcoming season 2, and 343 more generally, that the decision has been made to remove a fun easter egg from the campaign. One that is both entertaining and endearing but also of genuine help in tackling Infinite’s broken higher difficulties and encounter design. 343 read the room.

tbh the LASO challenge in Infinite has already been tainted, but if they want it to mean something moving forward, just make it where the acheivement is disabled if you use the gun at any point in a LASO run,

That way people who want to use it for fun can do so, but LASO retains its prestige,
they please both sides of the community while not coming off as massively tone deaf.

they did this back in MCC, using the beneficial skulls nullified youre ability to get certain achievemetns like Legendary.

Ok regardless if its a bug/glich or unintended feature, Clearly theres plenty of support in the community for it to remin in the game with maybe a restriction as not to devalue something like LASO,

Them keeping it in would do them Good will and we all know they are sorely in need of that right now. removing something from the game the community enjoys when the game is lacking in things to do or have fun with is a tone deaf and rediculous idea to make.

many other devs have in the past had these things prop up but see the community like them, that they became officiallly supported features if not staples of games.

I’m very much in favor of it returning in some fashion, but its effect on the game needs to be reduced.

Challenge/achievement/award completion should be disabled when using it in this manner. And as a bug, I don’t think it’s as easy to just make this happen as players would assume.

I really think this awesome fun glitch should stay. However, if 343i does go ahead with their plans to remove it, can’t we just mod it back in?

The perfect take.

For those who don’t want to use it, it’s already out of the way. Might as well leave it there for those who enjoy it.

Has 343 said anything about existing save files with the tank gun? I assume it would still work. I would be really mad if I was at the end of my run and I had to start over.

Unfortunately there’s precedent for LASO runs being tainted. In MCC there was a checkpoint sharing bug that would allow for people to complete 1 mission or watch a cutscene to get the LASO achievement. 343 didn’t resolve the bug until years later so many people got all or most of their LASOs (Except Reach) via this bug. When I lasoed mcc the bugs were patched so my buddy and I did them and followed silver’s guides. I’m not suprised they let this bug stay in the game to eventually just patch it.

Remove it 2 days after release… fine, keep LASO hard. Remove it 6 months after felease… wow, how stupid can they be?

  1. the man power going into this is neede at so many places elsewhere.

  2. why taking away the replay value?

I finished the campaign, didn’t really enjoy the boring mission design, the boring story, the boring bosses. But replay it in such a different way? why not. Not fir a worthless achievement but for new gameplay. But now… theres absolutely no reason to fire up the campaign.

But man… it’s just soooo 343. It really hurts watching their bad decision making.

I fail to see what benefits would arise from removing this from the game. Just because it wasn’t intended to be a part of the game doesn’t mean it’s bad for it. I feel like 343 is focusing on the wrong parts of the game and trying to fix things that don’t need to be fixed. There are far bigger and more pressing issues in both the campaign and multiplayer that need fixing that should be taking precedent over things like this that don’t negatively impact gameplay and often make the game more enjoyable.
