Don't remove the tank gun! 343 needs to reconsider

While I like the idea of it being a skull like the scarab gun skull, it probably wouldn’t have the affect you’re talking about. That’s not how that works.

The way the scarab skull works is by changing the projectile of each weapon to the scarab laser projectile. With that the projectile would always be plasma based with an AOE just like the scarab gun.

If they would implement the tank gun as a skull then it would probably function the same way as a projectile swap. All weapons would maintain their original firing speed and pattern but the projectile will just be a tank shot. In order for it to register whatever damage type your weapon was they’d have to add in an extra query to first check the weapon type and then reapply the type to the tank shot projectile that you fire. As where just making it a simple projectile swap would leave it always as a kinetic explosive.

But none of this really matters as the tank gun is just simply being added back in. Maybe they’ve fixed it so it’s not a “glitch” now and is actually a “functional feature”. Who knows, but all that really matters to me is that it’s back.

I wish they would give the Tank Gun a model because there are 2 problems with the Tank Gun when you have it equipped you can’t grab ledges or throw grenades

what has the point more for throw grenades when the tank gun do’s the same thing more and is more power full then any type grenades.

and is it not so that you can switch it with the secondary weapon more you have that grab ledges is no problem with it then?

First off the tank gun cannot fire stun grenades and secondly I shouldn’t have to switch weapons just to grab a ledge

first off why do you need the dynamo grenate’s for when you have the tank gun please explane it since i see really no point why you need to stun the enemy with dynamo grenate’s first before you blast then away with the tank gun.
i need no dynamo grenate’s at all if i use the tank gun since its better to blast then away first then stun then first.

and about the grab a ledge thing is more the same thing with the plasma and machine gun turet’s.
so i see no problem at all if you need to switch to you secondary weapon to grab a ledge at all with the tank gun.

I guess I see your point when it comes to grabbing ledges but when it comes to the stun grenades I actually have had enemies dodge the tank round before it’s like the enemies knew exactly when I was going to pull the trigger it took four to five shots before to hit a skirmisher

but is not the basic rule in halo more that with the rocket launcher or any type launcher at all not to hit the body from the enemy with it at all since its only making it harder to kill it?

that you need to hit more close on the ground from then so that the shockwave and the blast wave close to the enemy do’s the killing job better then hitting the body.

on legendary the elite’s and brute’s can dodge the tank gun for sure but if you hit on then but if you hit on the ground close to then there almost not dodge it.

Basically I would just like the Tank Gun to have some sort of form or shape if you will heck I would be fine with it looking like a weapon that is already in the game just with a different color scheme I would probably give it the form of a rocket launcher with a black and green, black and red, or black and purple color scheme

if the tank gun needs to look like a weapon then its most look like a mini version off the scorpoin tank gun and notting else.

Thien how come the Scarab gun looks like a regular plasma rifle in Halo 2

Because Bungie would use preexisting weapon models for reference of non use guns. They still need it to exist for stuff to function in game and in cutscenes, but it was never intended to be used.

Another example of this is the Phantom turret cannon in ODST. They’ve found a BR fused with a Plasma Rifle that is referenced for the turret. That gun fires Phantom turret shots, but is not usable. It seems that they thought ahead on that one.

Based upon how it works in Halo 2 I believe what Bungie did was modify a plasma rifle to fire a scarab laser. They needed something that could fire a scarab laser in game for the cutscenes and during specific events where a scarab would fire a laser during the mission. Modifying a pre-existing weapon and just sticking it inside another much larger model makes sense. The only problem is doing it this way means you’re starting off with a usable weapon that has just had a projectile swap or edit. Meaning the end result is a gun that fires exactly what you want it to, but that’s the problem it’s still actually a usable gun.

Do you think 343 could give it a model if they wanted to

Probably they would just have to attach a model to the file for the “weapon”. But of course that would take extra time and if they don’t have to do it why would they spend the time and the money to do it. I would absolutely love to have like a little mini tank Cannon strapped to my arm or just carrying a ripped off scorpion tank Cannon.

Knowing 343 they would have wanted to try to look as clean and professional as possible so what we’re looking at here in terms of work is:

• making a new model or editing a pre-existing model
• attaching that model to the tank gun weapon
• creating animations for holding the weapon while standing, walking and sprinting
• possible firing and/or reloading animations
Along with numerous other little extra things they would have to do depending on what direction they go with giving it an actual model.

If it was me I would use a pre-existing model so I wouldn’t have to come with a new one something like the Rocket Launcher or Bulldog with a different color scheme as for the reload animation I would probably just give it infinite ammo and a slow fire rate like it already has so I won’t have to bother with the reload animation

Do you happen to know when the update is coming out that will put the tank gun back in the game

I read the patch notes and it said the tank gun was no longer available I thought they were bringing that back

So I read the patch notes but from what I read it doesn’t seem like they brought the tank gun back and I thought that was something they said they were going to do

There must have been some miss type in the patch notes the tank guns there

Did you click to expand the 25 May patch notes section at the top? In there it says this:

  • The “tank gun” glitch in the Outpost Tremonius mission has been restored.
