Removing fun things from a game with such a lack of content is a great way to anger players.
As an achievement hunter I would rather 343 to add things that make me want to play the game. I have no desire to play infinite and I want that to change but I never understand why developers fix things that benefit the player that no one complains about but ignore the things people want fixed.
Latest information from the Halo Support Twitter account:

“In case you missed it, the “tank gun” glitch in the Outpost Tremonius mission of #HaloInfinite will no longer be available after the Season 2 update. This update will not remove the tank gun from any existing saves where it has already been picked up.”
I actually had a tank gun save, but I got rid of it like right before they announced the patch, now i have to go get it again.
Well looks like I know that I’m doing today lol
This is an interesting twist in the tank gun story: https://twitter.com/halodotapi/status/1519459170302496769
Looks like tank gun + split screen may have caused issues, and might play into the decision to remove it.
343 should have come clean about the issues it was causing. We know now at least. I guess I’ll have it regardless. I wonder if you will be able to use in it the future on campaign expansions from the previous save files.
Cause theyre the no fun crew
Oh shoot i thought you said “why” but my statement still stands. Also to answer your question unyshek said on twitter they would be removing it in season 2.
My bad now im seeing someone already answered my bad lol
i think there can better come clean with why it not was fix after few weeks off the game launch and wait month’s with it that think better since the reason why there going to fix it is maybe to do with the LASO runs that you can do so fast with it.
since the delay off the fix is wierd more now.
They should do what the GTA games do when the cheats are activated, if you pick up the tank gun all achievements are disabled.
That way the integrity of the game is kept intact and yet there is something fun for the players to use if they choose to do so.
No because that was an intentional design choice, as stated lol.
Because it’s an unintended side effect of coding, an exploit due to conflicting code. Most likely a scripting error.
Besides, it can be added back in as an intended feature with proper coding that won’t conflict and barriers that prevent it from being exploited in the manner that it currently is.
They should, however due to the nature of “bugs” it’s difficult to codify them as they’re usually interactions as a result of misaligned or conflicting lines of code, sometimes spaced so far apart they don’t even look like they could interact.
It is simpler to remove the bug, then add it back in as a feature with assigned parameters.
+1 in the “leaving in bugs causes problems down the road” argument.
They could add it back in with proper coding, the issue is that being an unintended side effect of conflicting code (bug) usually means that more problems could appear upon further development.
The Scarab Gun was an intentional addition with proper coding and scripting and acted as a reward for player ingenuity and exploration.
The Tank Glitch is a bug as result of conflicting code.
Unless the glitch causes problems in further development of the game.
The problem with glitches and bugs is that they can have a negative impact down the road, which is speculated to have been the case with co-op and the tank glitch.
If it’s removed, it can be added back in with scripting that allows it to be a proper action reducing the likelihood of error down the road.
I had a car that could be turned on with anything that could fit into the ignition, hell I could turn it on with enough torque applied to it with my thumb. Sure it was helpful, until I found out it was the result of a cracked housing that bricked my vehicle inconveniently on the day of my friend’s wedding. If I would’ve gotten it fixed so that I could’ve been used properly it wouldn’t have been an issue down the road (no pun intended).
Let’s hope this is the case.
From the sounds of it, it was causing issues with Co-op in testing
Oh okay. That makes more sense.
could they just make it where if you picked it up, it disables laso or any other actual hard achievements.
tbh even in laso, I preferred the M41 Tracker rather than the tank gun.
If it’s causing problems with co-op then fair enough, otherwise it’s kind of like the scarab gun in H2, so no real harm in it being there
a lot off glitch’s i know in game’s do no harm at all in the further development of the game at all.
there can by that time still chance it.
for co-op you can make the tank gun so that only one player can pick it up like in halo 2 with the scarab gun that only 1 player can pick it up in that mission.
I’m sad to see it go, but if it is actually a bug and not an Easter egg that is going to affect further campaign development, such as co-op or further expansions, then it needs to go for the greater good.
I can’t speak for the speed runner community, but for the achievement hunters, TrueAchivements shows the unlock percentage as 0.14% for the global Xbox user base and 2.39% for the TA users who have unlocked an achievement in Infinite (8,888 users). This is a very small number of the overall users, and most would be one and done for using the weapon (maybe twice if they did it for their initial play through). Especially compared to the reported 20-million users for the game and the hopes to get more with the new season and upcoming features.
Yes, removing things like this set a bad precedent. But if it was not intentional and is hampering development of future content, then I am okay with its removal.
