Don't Penalize Betrayal Victims

This has always been a little something that’s irritated me in Halo multiplayer. Why is it that someone should be penalized with a death if they were betrayed? I just don’t see why. As of lately, whenever I play Halo 3 Matchmaking and build up amazing killstreaks, players just love to spoil the fun and kill me for the hell of it. They never fail to do so and it’s quite frustrating. I’ve never gotten a perfection medal in Halo 3 and i’ve had many opportunities to finally add one to my collection, but no, Johnny just couldn’t resist the temptation to be a di*k and kill me.

Players don’t deserve that. We should never have to be punished with a death because of the behavior of other players.

Hell FIX the dam booting system.

I can live with -1 for betraying, but i am sick of the INSTANT boot for an accidental betrayal.

EDIT; Ok misunderstood the post, BUT STILL!!!

We should just be forced to watch a replay of the betrayal through the eyes of the killer, THEN we can decide whether or not to boot them.

Betrayel cam? Hmm could work.

That may be the best way to solve booting. Cause it can be a mistake with a Rocket Launcher or railgun or any power weapon by killing a teammate in the vicinity. This is a good idea. Make a thread/poll about it

And there’s another point. Nobody deserves to be booted for accidental betrayals.

Haha bro tell the children on Reach that, it is like they’re busy spamming their X button incase of THE betrayel.

Just did. Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately, the purpose of that, I believe, is to prevent ‘strategic teamkilling’ wherein a person about to die gets gunned down by his ally to prevent the enemy its rightful point.

However, the way Reach currently calculates betrayals based on previously inflicted enemy damage (IE: If Blue1 shoots and kills Blue2 after Red1 has cracked his shields, for instance, the game gives a kill to Red1, not a betrayal to Blue1) could be used to fix this in its entirety. This would also keep people from screwing up games on purpose by killing each other.

There is no way to get rid of griefing entirely, as you could still screw with people under this system, but it’d make it harder. I fully believe an outright betrayal should not count as a death for the victim.

Well, the only reason I can think of why you should be punished if you’re betrayed by someone is that you can’t abuse the system in your favour.
If you didn’t get “killed”, a friend could just betray you when your health was low and hence rob the other team of a kill. He could even do so to “save you” and when you respawn you’d just continue your amazing streak…

Sorry to say, but the only way to fix issues regarding intentional betrays/immature players, is to turn off friendly fire for that gametype/playlist. Which, as a strange coincidence, is the reason most games have FF off in all social/standard machmaking and only FF on in “ranked”.

That’s where the game’s own booting system would kick in. Two or three teamkills and you’re out of there.

If the game had such system, the current one would allow your teamates to “forgive” you for all eternity
And to be honest, getting away with 2-3 less deaths/player is still a major change in the statistics. If two players does it, you’d get 4-6 kills less for the opponents, and I’ve played many matches settled with lesser differences then that ^^

I’m sure the team would come up with a solution to our little problem. But yes, you have a good point.

I agree. Being betrayed shouldn’t count as a death (in social playlists). :stuck_out_tongue:
