Don't like Halo 5 Guardian? What WILL satisfy you?

GIVE ME YOUR IDEA OF THE PERFECT HALO GAME WITH CHANGES THAT WON’T MAKE EVERYONE ELSE HATE IT. The rule of this challenge is: You HAVE to think of an idea of a new Halo games that implements changes that, in your view, avoid the following:

a. Copies CoD
b. Changes the core gameplay
c. Breaks the game
d. Ceases to be Halo

Why is change necessary? Contrary to the popular belief on these forums, change for the sake of change can be a benefit. It gives each game its own identity. As a developer or artist, you don’t want to just pump out the same thing over and over. You want to mix things up, otherwise it becomes tedious and boring. Even CoD knows when to change things every now and then, although it varies in terms of success. LOOK AT THE ZELDA SERIES. All the 3D games tried something new with varying success, and it’s one of the main reasons why the franchise is so loved by many. Zelda introduces changes in all categories: Art style, mechanics, swordplay, music, and radically changes the very theme (I don’t mean theme music) from game to game. While some things in Zelda remain the same, everything else is shaken up drastically, and it’s generates INTEREST.

With Halo 5 Guardians, EVEN WITH the top professional Halo players giving their input on how the Multiplayer should be designed, people are still going on endless rants about how it’s not Halo anymore, and that it’s just a casual cesspool. You just can’t win.

So, if you consider yourself so much smarter and more competent than 343, put your money where your mouth is, and think of a new Halo game with innovations that you and others won’t hate. For this challenge, you HAVE to provide a new innovation.

>GIVE ME YOUR IDEA OF THE PERFECT HALO GAME WITH CHANGES THAT WON’T MAKE EVERYONE ELSE HATE IT.

According to the vocal minority AKA the competitive community, they won’t be satisfied unless they get a carbon copy of Halo 2 or 3.

Just some ideas of mine from another thread that are much more true to the formula than any of 343’s:

Weather/time of day in forge (I know Far cry did this, but with Halo, it would be so much better)

Include jiralhanae and forerunners as playable species, but they play exactly the same as spartans and sangheili by default.

Talking about species, you should be able to change the traits of each individual species, such as size, speed, strength, unique abilities such as jump pack and camo, what kind of weapons they can pick up, etc. (you guys should expand on this one.)

Put in an option that would allow us to choose if a forge piece is destructible or not.

Maybe allow us to choose a faction for each of the species that would change the art direction of our species, say if you choose the Army for Spartans, you would get Reach’s more tanky but functional looking armor, if you choose Navy, you get 4’s sleek and alien armor, or with sangheili if you choose traditional, it is 4’s insectoid versions, or reformist would be 3’s more aerodynamic design, you get what I mean.

Allow us to customize our character’s head for “peaceful” gametypes (AKA, mostly a clan thing), and you’re character’s face would sync in with your’s if you have a kinect (finally make useful), this would help machinima directors a lot.)

Allow us to control gravity, sound, light, and ambience in forge.

Hell, allow us to use ACTUAL LIGHTS in forge.

Allow us to make custom forge assets/pieces

Make some actual creative weapons like a plasma rifle that acts more like an artillery gun.

Just a few things that I can name off the top of my head. :stuck_out_tongue:

First of all, it’ll give itself its own identity alright… Its own CRAPPY identity. Additionally, Halo is not Zelda. Those are totally 2 different series on 2 different platforms.

By the way, the majority of the criticizers aren’t claiming to be smarter and more competent than 343. We’re only saying that we know what works, and that 343 needs to stop trying making ugly pretty no matter how many lip injections, eyebrow lifts, cheek implants, nosejobs you give it. Under the skin it’s still ugly.

You just completely contradicted yourself with the whole “we aren’t claiming to be more competent about a game 343 makes but we know what makes this game work more than 343.” You practically said I’m not saying we are smarter than 343 but I’m saying we are smarter than 343.

Except for forge it kinda sounds like a reskin of destiny. Multiple species, different armour with different paths, helmet off moments with faces, and factions. Although if it was just the customization with races and looks, then I would be totally fine with it.

The faction armor thing is purely for aesthetics. And the additional species thing is more of an extension to how the sangheili were playable in 2/3/Reach.

I know and it would be cool, it just really at first read sounded like destiny. Although the size and visor shape would be a bit weird for promethean knights. Those things are 12 feet tall and have a very fat back. How would you balance it?

No, I mean flesh and bone forerunners, not those automatons.

That’s purposely misconstruing my point just to make it invalid. Swing and miss.

Try again.

Ah now that is a very good idea. Have you seen the thread pitching Halo:mantle? Also it would most likely introduce us to even more powerful weapons and possibly vehicles.

Oooh, just that title gets my nerd juices warm. Linky please.

Dude, I’m a purist, but you shouldn’t be aggressive towards those who disagree with you, in fact, you should be the better man.

I have a few that would make Halo 5 pretty awesome, in my opinion…

  • Spartan Abilities that actually differentiate from other shooters.
  • Spartan Abilities that DON’T actually work better in other shooters, only in Halo.
  • Less Spartan Abilities as a whole. There’s too many of them.
  • Military-looking Spartan armor. Pouches, knives, grenades, etc. It should all be visible on the armor, kinda like in Reach.
Please, no more 500 chest pieces…
  • Remove power weapon callouts entirely, or at least textualize them.
  • It would be nice to see the Plasma Rifle and Flamethrower return.
  • The ranking system is a common complaint.

I remember them adding actual Spartan combat forms to Infection in Halo 4. That was a nice touch. Let’s expand on that…

  • Grunts. Make gametypes for them. I’ve always wanted to play Grunt Slayer. Also, Marines vs. Jackals would be pretty cool?
  • Bring back Elites.
  • Add Elite combat forms to Infection.

Already answered this in 2 other threads (Link 1,Link 2)

This is an amazingly good post. Unless Halo is an exact copy of Halo 2 or 3, you just can’t please the stupid Halo 2/3 elitists who despise any and all changes made to the Halo franchise.

Never in my Halo career have I ever had so much fun playing Halo, and this is just the beta! I have made so many new friends through playing the beta and even though we were laughing a lot, we also won most of our games. I have been able to acquire Onyx in both Slayer and Stronghold and I played Halo 5 for eight hours today. Yes, you heard me, eight! This is longer than any previous Halo that I have ever played and not once did I get bored or wanted to stop. The beta is so unbelievably good! I love the competitive, fast paced atmosphere, but at the same time, I can also have fun and have a good laugh. It’s all I ever wanted in a Halo game and Halo 5 fits the bill perfectly! Honestly, I don’t want the beta to end and I don’t want to go back to MCC! I want Halo 5 to be finished already so that I can play it and enjoy it for the rest of my gaming days!

“Oh, you aren’t a true Halo fan if you like Halo 5. You are probably 12 years old and just started playing Halo,” the Halo 2/3 elitists scream in my face. First off, I am 19 years old. Secondly, I played the original Halo: CE when I was 10 years old and I have played every single Halo since then. I love each and every Halo, but if I could only have one of them, it would have to be Halo 5.

And finally, to all of you Halo 2/3 elitists and Halo 5 haters, why are you spending so much time complaining about a game that won’t even really change that much? Sprint is here to stay and I am pretty sure that the Spartan abilities won’t be going anywhere either. If you hate the game so much, then just go and play the original Halos on MCC. Is it really that hard? Oh, and don’t go all “Well, MCC is still broken and blah, blah, blah,” because MCC is not broken. It is working quite well actually. If it is still “broken” for you, then it is simply a problem on your side.

Do I want to play a slow paced Halo in 2015? No way Jose! Spartans are super soldiers. They should be able to sprint, clamber, dash, and do whatever else they do! Unlike most people, I don’t have any problems with what 343 is doing to Halo and I don’t think that they are doing anything wrong with Halo 5. Halo needs to expand! Halo needs to evolve! Halo needs to be different! If it didn’t change, then it would just get stale and would really start being like COD, rinsing and repeating the exact same formula with just a thin coat of paint over it.

If you still hate Halo 5, then you need to do one of two things. Suck it up and accept the new Halo for what it is, or go back to the old Halos and stay there. Me personally, Halo 5 is where I’ll be.

Changes aren’t inherently bad.

There was no outcry against the introduction of assassinations in Halo: Reach because they did not change the flow of the game.
There was no outcry against equipment in Halo 3 because it could be toggle off.

Personally, I didn’t even care about dual-wielding because it didn’t break the flow of the game. It was just as easy for me to kill someone who was dual-wielding SMGs as it was a single SMG.

I see competitive people crying to have sprint and the new abilities taken out of the game. Where does that land us? Halo 2 or 3.
