don't get why everyone hated forge on h4

The only reason I see is the 3 release maps being worse than forge world but the forge itself was an improvement if you ask me. I know there weren’t as much vehicles, gametypes and custom options but again that’s not because of the functionality of the editor on it’s own.
So why do some people hate so much on it? Was it because of those things?

Like a lot of things, I think it was just a pretty big step back from Reach’s forge. Whenever a new game regresses from a predecessor, it almost always gets hate.

Yes, but I’m curious why exactly

I didn’t mind it.

Well for me I can say I loved the magnets and the duplicating items and all that was so so helpful, but my problem with it (the reason I only ever made 2 forge maps in Halo 4 while I had made dozens in all the others) was the blocks looked so similar. And they were ugly at that. Every block was this weird new UNSC art style and it just didn’t work. How can I make a level that is supposed to look like a modern city out of that?

Sure the grey Forerunner aesthtic that Halo Reach went with had it’s issues but I felt like that was doable and you could make a believable city map with that. Halo 3 had more unique blocks to make each map feel different and Halo 5 well despite hating the rest of the game did a great job with Forge.

IIRC the base mechanics weren’t seen as much of an improvement over Halo Reach and since it didn’t have a map as good as Forge World it was concluded to be inferior.

I have no opinion either way, I didn’t stick around Halo 4 longer enough to try forge.
