Even though it was confirmed, I am sure it wont be like past Halo games. 343i still want Halo Infiinite, a F2P, to thrive from monetization. Many similar F2P games that have in-game credits usually have a system that are really hard grinds for them to the point you never really get what you want until after a a long while. Take League of Legends for example. You open lootboxes for doing well, and then you can sell whats inside for a small price until after a few weeks, you finally get something. But not always what you want.
343i might give you really small portions of credits, where you get to buy something from the shop after a few weeks or a month. Or who knows, maybe bring they’ll back lootboxes…
They absolutely will not do that. That will be the nail in the coffin for the entire remaining population.
Well as I said who knows. They either will make getting credits hard but your item easy. Or getting credits easy but items hard. And getting them hard will just be lootboxes~~
This is what I’m assuming to be the choice that they’ll go with, and I think that’s fine as buying one BP essentially means you’ll be able to pay your way through future BPs. That’s how it went for me in Modern Warfare and I think that’s fair.
But whether 343 will actually do it or this becomes another thing they miss the mark on we won’t know until it happens.
I just copy paste my reply to the Unyshek-Thread in here, because I think it fits to the topic.
"I am thinking a long time about the fact, that earnable credits are introduced with Season 2s battlepass, which begins in 4 months.
In my personal opinion, it does not make sense to “value the feedback” of the community in 4 months, while the beta-/full release was only 2 months ago.
For me, it seems to be just seems to be a reaction of fear, because there might be a heavy financial loss of not selling battlepasses for season 2 after releasing this season 1 pass with too few unlockable items and the current broken state of the game.
With unlocking earnable credits at the begin of season 2, they secure that enough people have a reason to buy the new battlepass and keep playing the game. The financial losses of the store itself (if there will be some at all) by earnable credits are worth the more sold battlepasses and the higher playerbase, who even could invest more in the store later on.
As long as the model of earnable credits is not introduced, I would not praise it at all. For now, it just looks like a marketing and monetary move without knowing if it is worth it for the player. Combining earnable credits with challenges would even create a bigger “fomo”-model, which is not my understanding of “listening to communities feedback”."
Not so much complaining but expressing concerns/skepticism based on 343’s very rocky implementations on their design choices for this game, particularly the very related Challenges, Rewards (particularly in the Events when half of them were Double XP/Challenge Swaps), and Store prices and how those went: that being heavy backlash and the changes that came later.
I believe we can be pretty sure that earnable premium currency won’t make it like previous Halo games with regards to cosmetics progression. If you want to get everything in the store it will be very, very grindy. This is more of a thing to allow people to get one or two specific items from the store without paying.
I hadn’t thought of the idea of purchasing future BPs using the money from this one. But given that this seems to be a thing in other games (I played none of the ones mentioned) that’s of course also a possibility.
As for praising or condemning 343i: sometimes the community seems a bit bipolar - either everything is great or everything is terrible. I think it’s worth acknowledging when they take or announce steps in the right direction. Doesn’t make everything great.
If they do 1000cr (cost of the battle pass) thatd be perfect and good enough tbh.
Most other games give your cost of the BP, it usually bring back players and keeps them playing which is a smart move.
I know if I get 1000cr back I’d be very happy to spend money in the store as I dont need to worry about constantly buying the BP. It ends up being a 1 time purchase progression system which is fair enough
As far as we know, they will come from the season pass, likely taking the place of swaps and xp boosts.
This means there will be a pre-determineted, finite amount of earnable credits per season, hopefully it’s enough that you can complete a pass to get the next pass for free AND get some shop stuff. Like 5000cr total would be fantastic. You could make 3-4 bundle purchases on top of buying a pass with that.
But it’ll probably just be 1K so we need to choose between shop purchases or saving for the next pass.
Sounds like he cares about the community feedback, and doesn’t really like how the battle pass for Season 1 was gutted. Things are probably out of his control, but I do respect him more after reading that. Thanks for posting it. Even if it doesn’t paint the prettiest picture for what we’ll be getting, I’m happy to hear the honesty.
I think the reason things seem either great or terrible is people praised what they liked and condemn what they don’t. So from thread to thread it seems like people are so polar, even though I’d wager most are more in the middle. At least I am. I’m vocal about the things I am not happy about, but only because I like the core gameplay so much. If 343 didn’t do a good job with parts of this game I just wouldn’t care.
One thing to consider, is if it’s at least enough to earn future battle passes, then you can use all of your Microsoft rewards points towards other items in the store. You can rewards points pretty fast too. I’ve gotten over 8000 since last month, and I just open the app for a few minutes a day. Missed a few days too. In a season at that rate it’s enough to get almost $30 worth of cosmetics. Not a ton, but not meaningless either. If I don’t have to worry about using rewards points on the battle pass, I just might use them in the store.
From what I’ve heard about other games’ battle pass systems it sounds like the most likely possibility is going to be that challenge swaps and XP boosts will be replaced with credits in the season pass and that you’ll essentially earn back the money you spent to buy the premium pass, and maybe a little extra for buying a bundle in the store. While I’d like to think they’ll also include some way of earning credits for player score in matches, games completed, and/or games won I’m still in doubt over that. Even if it would take a huge amount of time I just don’t see giving the option to let someone in theory eventually be able to buy everything in the store without having ever spent a single penny. I hope I’m wrong on that, but I just have serious doubt about it.
I’ll echo what others have said here and say yes, S2 BP will most likely allow you to earn 1000CR which IMO is plenty. They’re not going to RAIN CR down from the sky on us lol. They still want ppl spending actual money in the store
Yeah, if it’s gonna be setup to where you just have to buy the premium pass for one season and then you earn those credits back so that you essentially get all the future seasons for just that one time 1000 credit purchase I’d be satisfied with that. That’d make me comfortable with buying all the seasons as well since at that point they’re essentially free.
Yup. And with the new bundle ~1000CR pricing I’d be more than happy to have that in my back pocket after or during S2 so I could buy one bundle I like per season. I really can’t imagine wanting to buy more than that every couple months anyways
