Don't Blame 343...

Too all those competitive players moaning at 343 about invisible ranks, don’t blame them for it. Now before I explain why, let me just say that I understand why you want a visible ranking system, but also partly don’t. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

What I’m saying is don’t blame 343 for getting rid of the visible ranks, blame the e-peen jerks who wave it round as a tool for condescending people. YOu may not quite realise it a few of you, but MANY people out there spoiled others experiences online but talking down to them as some kind of rodent, because they were just a 24 or something in Team Slayer. For developers, a fun, friendly and enjoyable enviroment over a visible rnaking system that is supposedly “the only incentive to win”. This happens a lot with other things. We have something nice and interesting, but then a group of idiots appear and then all of a sudden this nice feature becomes hell for other players. It’s just sad really. It starts off a small amount. But eventually EVERYONE does it.

This has happened to me A LOT throughout my time on 3. I, having a highest skill of 26, arrive in a game with someone who has a highest skill of 48. The 48 then openly laughs at my rank, then uses to talk down. And this when the most annoying term in existence comes in to play. “Hey look! It’s a SCRUB!! AHAHAHAHAHA!!!”. I swear, the amount times of been treated like some kind of child on 3 is just insane. I was glad by the time Reach hit that that ceased to happen. Now no one would wave their 50 around like some -Yoink-.

And another reason, is -Yoink!- de-rankers and account buyers. On my earliest XBL account, I was a 46 in Team Slayer. When you get there, you lose all of the e-peen jerks. YAY!! But wait! Here’s another pile of crap to wade through. First, boosters. I get in a game where all people are doing is killing team-mates to drop their rank. Everygame I’d seem to drop thanks to those jerks. BUt of course, not everyone there was a de-ranker. There was some people trying to play. But what was wrong with these players? THey sucked. HARD! It wasn’t rare to run into some idiot who couldn’t be bothered to earn his 50, so he bought one then slowly watched as his rank dropped. Being paired with these people became frustrating and annoying that made me want to just go back to being a 20 or something so I didn’t have to deal with all these players.

This, people, is why we can’t have nice things. Not because 343 is evil or something, but because there some annoying people out there that ruin it for everyone else. Blame them, not 343.

I blame them for removing/restricting Custom Game options…

What? We’re not blaming 343. We’re telling them they did a bad thing.

Be happy they still have BPR, Seano, or we’d have Reach-like population numbers.

You don’t want to blame the people who made the game for it’s problems? okay…

yeah, as soon as you the 40 mark then that’s when the afk kids, derankers, quitters start rolling in. the only way you’re getting 50 is buy bringing a full team with you.

> yeah, as soon as you the 40 mark then that’s when the afk kids, derankers, quitters start rolling in. the only way you’re getting 50 is buy bringing a full team with you.

Problem with that was, hardly anyone I knew had a 40, let alone even played Halo. Where I am, everyone’s just into CoD. Mention Halo and they call you a nerd.

BPR is kinda dumb. Arby has a BPR of 100 and he just does a lot of messing around. Like conga lines.

Also telling them they’re doing something bad is blaming them for it. You should be telling the jerks I mentioned above that they’re doing a bad things.

Havent you heard? Invisible ranks are so yesterday. Now it’s all about the restrictive custom games.

> You don’t want to blame the people who made the game for it’s problems? okay…

What I’m saying is that they made the decision to keep the environment of the game be a little more friendly because some jerks can’t stop ruin the environment.

I play with a team of Inheritors, Reclaimers, and Forerunners. As soon as we find a match, a random guy goes “Hell, no!”. He leaves followed by some more people and that leaves 5 people. The game starts, more quit out, and the last guy hides. I’m glad to see visible ranks out of Halo 4.

> You don’t want to blame the people who made the game for it’s problems? okay…

No matter what game makers do to there games they can NOT make them cheat proof b/c there are always people out there who are smater then they are and will know to cheat the system. So no I do not blame the devs. Making a game cheat or glitch proof is impossible.

I think the only thing they can do is get rid of ranks and things like that to give people less incentive to cheat.

Sigh I don’t see the big deal of custom game stuff… I always hated the boring mini games people made. I used to like that stuff when I was like what? 9? 10? By the time I turned 13 I hated that stuff.

The mute button is an unbelievable hard concept to grasp.

Yeah, stuff like that was annoying too. I don’t see why people get so intimidated by inheritors though. It doesn’t show how good they are. I, a brigadier, have won multiple games against inheritors, reclaimers and forerunners. Proof that ranks in reach are not to be used to judge skill.

I was never one for Custom Games myself. But I do empathise with the Customs community on this one. Im actually quite shocked at the level of customisation (or lack of) in H4.

Arby has a BPR because he’s good. If you’re good and you mess around, you’re still good.

And no, telling them they’re doing something bad is giving feedback. Blaming is when we say ‘It’s all your fault!’. But obviously it isn’t. They just made a choice they thought justified, and the fault lies in what the choice was justified on.

And no, it’s simply not possible to blame it on every single jerk who played the game, nor does it change much other than have them film themselves committing federal crime DDOSing themselves.

And finally, you forget. If there are trolls and -Yoinks!-, it doesn’t matter whether or not they have something skill based, they’ll still find something to brag over you about.

I remember back in Reach a 12 year old kid who sounded like he had his nose blocked was screaming and insulting me because he was a Brig, I was 2-3 ranks down and I was doing better than him. Needless to say, he declined my 1v1 invite.

That progressive exp rankings, that’s still in the game. Replace inheritors with Sr 120-130 level players and you could realistically see that happen again.

I don’t think you read the whole thing. I gave three examples of annoyances in matchmaking. You only argued against one. And even just hearing that single comment can ruin my day. Not to mention the fact that the mute button doesn’t mute messages…

Can’t understand all the backlash on this. from reviews etc, halo 4 appears to be doing the rounds and I think 343i should be commended for making what seems to be a very good game, under an unreal amount of pressure.

Just because you didn’t like Custom Games doesn’t mean it’s “kiddy” and should be disregarded. Hell, a majority of players usually play Custom Games after getting their fill of MM. Get over yourself.
