This has been said countless times before, but its worth saying countless more: The progression model is not good.
Now let me say this with a bit of compassion. Halo is a beloved franchise that offers a unique enjoyable experience on its own. It can easily make money on its own merit. I understand the multiplayer is free and you’ve got fat shareholders to please, but the aggressive usage of microtransactions will not end well.
The majority of Halo’s playerbase are working adults; and in these troubling times these adults don’t want to waste their time on a slog of a game, or waste their money on petty cosmetics and boosters. They only have a few hours to relax daily, and money is getting tight for the average human. That said, players are more likely to give money if they are genuinely happy. Progress needs to be visible and monetization needs to be largely optional. That way players are comfortable and don’t feel like they’re being shanghaied. It’s basic psychology really.
So please keep these things in mind moving forward:
- Halo is a fun game. Build on the fun.
- The average player only plays a couple hours a day. Make progress viable for them.
- Money is given, not taken. Holding things behind a series of paywalls will hurt the game long term.
Anything else need to be said?
