If the mechanic where players fill up empty spots in a match returns from Halo 5, please add a way to toggle it on or off. There’s nothing more annoying than joining a match with an enemy team about to win, or spawning into the last round of a game of Firefight. At the very least, it needs to be tweaked to only put players in an ongoing match if there’s enough time to turn the tide of the game.
Your issues seem to be related to how it’s implemented rather than the feature itself. I don’t think it’s bad when it works properly, but I’m guessing they’ll fix some of those issues.

Yep, I touched on that in the last sentence. I’d still prefer a toggle, but hopefully they’ll at least fix the late spawning.
I think a toggle would be nice. But it’s a little broken sometimes. Assuming it gets fixed with its current issues I wouldn’t mind it being in. If the same issues persist I’d rather join in progress to be scrapped
If it were to return as a togglable feature I feel like everyone would disable it. JIP players should be rewarded with bonus XP or RP or whatever they have in H6. Teams stay full and even if the match is a loss, JIP players are motivated to stick around for their bonus rewards.

I agree. CoD MW and Titanfall have the best solution imo. If you join a losing side and lose you don’t record the loss, stick it out and win and you get the win. It gives players joining in progress a no risk situation and helps a team low on players. Halo could and should implement it imo.
I would love that as an option, that’s what I thought of when I read the title.
I have to admit, I don’t really love join in progress but I understand it. I think they need to fix some of the parameters around it and also give a massive boost in XP if you join one.
On another note that’s related to this, I want to be able to REJOIN ranked matches that I get disconnected from. There’s no reason why a player shouldn’t be able too. It really frustrates me when myself or one of my teammates get disconnected from a match and there’s plenty of time left in the match for them to rejoin but aren’t allowed. Other games have this I don’t know why it’s not in 5 so it better be in Infinite.
Honestly, I don’t mind how it’s implemented now. However, it doesn’t make sense as to why there wasn’t any way to opt out.
JIP is infuriating. I want to play a proper match, from beginning to end.
Allow DC’d players to re-join, but don’t force me to pick up their slack.
