Doing challenges makes this game a miserable experience and everyone knows it

Let me tell you the story of my challenges this week.

Get 10 Sword kills
So to do this I need to try to get a random sword spawn, then manage to get ten kills with it. To do this I could either play Quickplay and PRAY that there is a sword spawn on the map at all that I get randomly put on (two levels of RNG), or I can play BTB and PRAY that a sword drops onto the map from space. I got 2 kills then just swapped it because it’s insane that there is this much RNG to a challenge. There should never, EVER be challenges that are literally based on random weapon spawns.

Get 3 Guardian Angel kills (TWICE)
So to do this challenge I need to basically get onto a BTB map with a good sniping weapon (random) then save an ally’s life (where the point of “saving their life is” is not defined) from a distance (and of course “distance” is not defined either). So to do this I spent hours picking up snipers and just shooting into battles hoping and praying that one of the kills would result in a Guardian Angel medal by some nebulous combination of distance and the opponent dealing shield damage to my ally at the time.

Get 3 Grapplejacks
So to do this challenge I need to go onto a map, find a grapple hook spawn, then hijack an enemy vehicle using it three times. Now, unfortunately, 2/3 BTB aps don’t have regular vehicle spawns that can be grapplejacked. However, I went into Fragmentation anyhow despite 90% of the game not having a vehicle circulating around since their spawns are so sparse, I camped the hookshot spawn, and then I sat around the middle of the map, and waited, and waited, and waited, and waited, and over the course of the game I managed to grapple onto and hijack three enemies. By the way, you essentially can’t grapplejack a Warthog because it will put you on the turret or passenger seat instead of booting the driver.

Then the game ended, and would you know, my progression tracked displayed only 1/3 grapplejacks. Why? I don’t know. I grappled a brute chopper twice, and a hornet random spawn once. only one of those counted. So then I got plopped into Deadlock, the worst BTB map, and I was forced to once again go camp the grapple spawn, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and wait, and then across the ENTIRE game, I got ONE opportunity to Grapplejack someone. I even considered DELIVERING VEHICLES TO THE OPPONENTS TO GET THEM TO USE VEHICLES.

Win 3 Odball matches (TWICE)
Yeah. People simply don’t know how to play Oddball and unless I’m gonna do it solo this is horrendous and agonizing to do. This is basically a luck based challenge. It is just pure luck as to whether you get put on a team capable of winning an Oddball match.

This isn’t fun. It makes the game not fun. The fact that the ONLY way to gain XP is through doing these painful and miserable challenges is not fun. It makes me not want to play anymore and especially not pay any more money into this system. Everyone knows it and everyone feels this way. Having challenges that are based on complete RNG, or opponents behaving in certain ways, or sheer stupid luck, are not enjoyable, they’re stressful and awful. I am STILL trying to do the third Grapplejack because it is SO situational and CANNOT BE DONE TO THE ONLY REGULAR VEHICLE THAT SPAWNS.

They got my $15 for this pass, but unless this system is drastically changed by implementing XP rewards for in game actions (1XP per kill, 10XP flag capture, 1XP per second holding Oddball, 5XP capturing zones, 3XP per medal, etc) there is absolutely NO WAY I am paying any more money into this system.

If you are looking for a fun and rewarding FPS game with big boss fights, I recommend Borderlands 3. It’s so crazy, you buy the game and then you can play endlessly without further costs. You can even attempt and unlock all the achievements (cough medic cough). And imagine, you are leveling up and unlock cool stuff simply by playing the game how you want and doing hard tasks. That is such a wild concept.

Oh man, fortunately I didn’t struggle nearly as bad with my challenges for this week but definitely feel your frustration. I really hope they do something about the XP system soon, it straight up punishes you for wanting to continue playing the game after your first handful of matches/once you’ve completed your weekly challenges.
I hope that 343 gives players more incentive to continue playing beyond completion of the challenges.
There needs to be some sort of communication with the community, I’ve been looking around to see if they’ve posted anything about improving the XP system and I can’t find anything.
needing to complete 20 matches to level up feels like a big middle finger from 343. I truly hope this issue is a high priority for them and that they implement a fix before the end of the season.

It’s not miserable when you work with it rather than entirely in its favor.

Steer into the skid, players like yourself seem to only let the skid steer all over you.

I find challenges are easy to complete. If there is a challenge that I do not like, then I replace it with a different one. I look forward to working on them.

This week I had a problem with the Weekly Capstone challenge. The headshot kills were not being counted. It took me a few days to make any progress. Then suddenly the game counted 6 headshots during one match, and the Weekly Capstone was completed.

I like the challenges.

And the 2 $25 seasons passes each really add that extra experience too.

Not hating on Borderlands 3, actually it’s one of my favourite games. But the amount of content B3 got pales in comparison to the amount of content 343 will add with Infinite. And it will all be free (except maybe campaign dlc)

I’ve given up on the challenges lol. Not worth the stress and weird actions required to complete them. They’ll eventually add performance based xp gains and if the weekly rewards stay crappy everyone will abandon their crappy challenge system.

Could you get a little more salty at someone elses opinions? Sorry not everybody thinkg or agrees with you.

I have no proof new additions wont come to the game for free? Does the term Free-To-Play just fly over your head. Free maps, modes, weapons, balancing updates etc. If you don’t like how Infinite turned out, just go play another game. Why come on the forums and insult people who actually enjoy it. Like people want to do things in life they enjoy. Do you really enjoy going on the internet and being angry over a video game?

I never said 343 was perfect either and bhave and continue to make criticisms about the game. But of course real criticism gets drowned out by childish posts and whining from the man children in this community

This is why I don’t focus down challenges when I play matches. I mostly just play the match and try to enjoy it for what it’s worth. I start to challenges here and there when opportunities present itself.

Low and behold I’ve been doing this from the start and I’m currently rank 59.

I only play objective if my challenges tell me to do so. I do as the challenge guides.
You know, like that one rick and morty episode, except the goal isn’t a life of happiness its a skin or something. idk

You’re the guy who goes 3-16 on my team cause he needs a ravager kill

I laugh at the premise of completing challenges.

The only things worth doing is playing arena and playing forge. Everything else is back round noise

The challenges even make it miserable for people like me who don’t even engage with them because their teammates are trying to do them and are just playing like garbage or just flat out leaving matches to get specific game modes.

Stop trying to do the challenges if you want 343 to fix the progression. They won’t fix it if they think they are making money and engaging the player. Just stop feeding into this system

It’s too late. Whales are already bragging they spent 3 k on the game

I hope it isn’t too late because it feels I have to exclusively play ranked to even have a shot at getting teammates who actually want to win the match.

This system has completely ruined quick play imo

The entire system is designed to push you to buy the skins and battle pass. That’s why there was a fully fleshed out store before a slayer playlist

Challenges are fun-draining. I wanna play Halo, not do chores.

Free to play was the worst thing to happen to modern gaming other than loot boxes and micro transactions . Oh look infinite has two of the three worst things in modern gaming. Also you spout bs about how much you get with infinite, literally no one thinks infinite gives you a lot, it’s as barebones as they come. Except for the store, 343 sure know how to milk skins and armor pieces.

They got the concept from apex legends. I have a buddy that plays apex religiously and the -Yoink!- couldn’t understand why the challenges pissed me off.
