In the opening cutscene of the game, during the initial panning shot where we see a shot of Zeta Halo, we also see a large planet next to the ring, however at no point during the game is any planet visible. Do you guys think this is merely because that initial scene is supposed to match the legendary ending of Halo 5 as a sort of Easter egg? Or perhaps during the destruction of zeta halo (or at some other point) the ring was moved away from that initial location. I have been curious about this and wonder what other’s takes are on this.
On the one hand if the ring has moved, that would explain why there is no remnants of the Infinity visible in space. On the other hand though, if the ring did move, it would seem that the Echo 216 and his pelican would’ve also been left behind with the infinity. Perhaps he was close enough to the ring to have traveled with it? I have to say I really love that Halo Infinite has gotten back to the kind of classic halo story telling that doesn’t answer all the questions that it poses. Definitely looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
That’s a good point!
I have no idea why it would move. But maybe Echo stayed close because his only hope has that there were survivors on the ring.
But that still doesn’t explain how the chief is there.
Hard to say really but afaik in the audio logs that you collect, you can hear the section of when Lasky uses the emergency pot, sends an evacuation broadcast and is then cut-off eventually which makes me believe that the ring really teleported.
Well spotted . This is confirmed by the description in-game for the audio log Outpost Intel 09 ‘To Andrew Valleros’. I’ve typed it below for you:
Another message meant for home but we don’t even know where that is anymore. Astronavigation is still trying to recalibrate, but one thing is certain, we’re no longer in the Ephsu system. During the destruction event, something - or someone - moved Zeta Halo.
Also, this is from Halopedia:
During the destruction event that shattered a portion of the ring at the hands of Cortana, Installation 07 itself was moved from the Ephsu system to an unknown location. UNSC survivors on the ring, who continued to mount a sporadic resistance against the Banished, had no way to call for reinforcements, but the Banished were similarly stranded even though they still had warships at their disposal
I bet the ring moved right after the destruction. As some sort of defense mechanism. After all remember what commander Agrina said in the MP opening? How everyone was missing? This could explain why chief was floating for 6 months as well.
Ummm, yes I obviously did, I used teleport in the title in order to keep it from being too wordy (didn’t figure any pedants would be perturbed by this). Further, I see no confusion among those replying to the thread, everyone caught my meaning. Thanks for your helpful comment.
Yes, good point about the MP opening, that plus what was mentioned above regarding the audio log it definitely seems that zeta halo entered slipspace and traveled some distance from its original location.
no need to get snappy, and i don’t think it did, though you would think that chief would at least have asked the pilot where infinity is, or where its crash site is
As @A_Blues_fan pointed out from the audio log Outpost Intel 09:
So it does appear that the ring has moved although it is unclear how exactly it moved so I suppose this does not confirm it traveled through slipspace. Though it does seem from a few different sources as some have mentioned that it is in a different location than that opening cutscene.
I’ve read through the comments, and especially after reading the comment left by @A_Blues_fan , it’s all but confirmed that Zeta Halo did indeed teleport to a new location. It’s mention a few times from various character, both UNSC and Banished that they’re stuck or stranded on the Halo ring, like they’re in the middle of nowhere.
I noticed the lack of the planet in the skybox, and with the time skip showing that the Halo went from perfectly fine, to having a massive chunk obliterated, I figured something must have moved the Halo during the six month period that we didn’t get to see.
Some are confused why this even happened, but it’s actually a simple explanation. It was a built in defence protocol, originally meant to move the Halo Ring out of harms way when suffering a significant amount of damage, to both protect the ring itself and to keep it out of enemy hands.
This has happened before with Zeta Halo in the books, it entered emergency slip space after being damaged in a large battle. It also happened with Alpha Halo in Halo Nightfall, where they mention that the Halo tries to enter slipspace to safe itself from the destruction, but only a fragment of the ring makes it through as the explosion took out the rest of the ring before hand.
So it would seem that after Cortana destroyed the section of the ring where the Silent Auditorium was located, either the Halo’s emergency safety protocols or Despondent Pyre sent Zeta Halo into slipspace to protect the ring from further damage. This subsequently sent all the UNSC and Banished forced nearby and on the ring with the rest of Zeta Halo, to where they are now.
Whether they’re still in the Milky Way Galaxy or not, I’m not sure. I’d assume they are, but you never know.
If infinity didnt go through the portal would it have been bossible for it, the life pods, pelicans and other ships to miss the ring and land planetside? Guess the other question has more to do with the gaurdian and other structures in the distance? Given blue team was sent to reach in the books could circuit breaker actually be the recovery of sanders? She was being sent towards reach within coms distance next to the first halo rings original location?
