So if you are a 1900 Onyx in the January Season, would you be more likely to be placed in Onyx in the February Season?
I have been looking at EG Snip3down EW’s service record. He was ranked like #8 in Team Arena in the pre-season and has played 15 games in the January season and is #1 and has an Onyx rating of 2586. So it makes sense to me that the formula goes off of your previous season ranking to some degree.
I think this will also make many people very happy. The people who love the 1-50 ranking system are very nervous that they will be placed gold-platinum every season and grind up to Onyx/Champion.
It’s basically a continuation of your previous rank instead of wiping the slate clean and starting over. So if you were an Onyx, you’ll be playing other Onyx’s in your placement matches.

You’re not alone. It’d be nice to see a Blog post about how the ranking system works and explaining the ins-and-outs of it.

Yes - I agree. Hopefully us users will raise enough annoyance that they will address this.

I don’t think it’s about being a “false” assumption–we just don’t really know. We can speculate all day, but it won’t bring us any closer to the truth.
343 needs to explain a few things about the ranking system. Until then, there’s no reason to read in to it.

Yeah, I agree. I have just been talking to a friend and trying to encourage him to care about his rank still… That it will affect next season. I think if we knew more about the season to season ranking this would help some frustration.
Transparency will always be nice in almost every situation but I think it will take some time before we hear something from 343 if at all. Sad but true.
