With all these new characters and events to cover, should Halo 5 get a CG prologue to bring people up to speed? I don’t think a huge prologue scene is really necessary or even the right way to go about it.
Here’s what I think.
Blue Team isn’t exactly new to people who read the comics and novels but to your average Halo player they are unknown. There’s a lot of people out there who think John is the last of his kind. This is not to say that they’re at fault. It’s just never been touched on before in the games. There are still the events which transpired in Escalation but it didn’t really amount to much. The Didact’s fate has been a mystery to all players both before and after the comic so it wouldn’t seem too important to have to explain how he came back just to be defeated again and go back to square one (the ending of Halo 4).
Maybe just a scene of Locke being briefed on Chief and Blue Team is all that it would take? It would make sense because Blue Team is still new to him. This could make the character much more relatable at the same time for players who aren’t familiar with Blue Team. They’d be discovering the new characters through Locke and his journey as opposed to an out of place cutscene that explains their history and then abruptly ends so that the main story can begin.
I think the best beginning to the campaign that we could get would be starting out as Locke. A short, playable beginning as Master Chief would be really nice too. But I’m talking really short, like not even 5 minutes. Just a little look into Master Chief’s side to tantalize the players and fuel them to want to learn more. This would also remind players that Chief is still the primary character of the game and prevent questions like “When do I get to see Master Chief? Isn’t he the main character still?”. The closest thing I can compare this to is the prologue in Dead Space 3 or the dream sequence from Gears of War 3. Just a little tease and a great way for the scene to fade to black with the title of the game coming up against the dark background. Then we’d cut to Locke as the first actual “legitimate” mission.
Thoughts?
I believe 343i has already thought of a “crash course” cutscene for the non-lore fans to bring them up to speed without wasting too much time. I think most will grasp it rather quickly.

Oh they definitely have it figured out by now. I’m just curious to see what people think of my idea.
Personally, i think indeed starting out as lock would be rather cool.
First up, i’d imagine Locke is getting a briefing by ONI on the whole Chief deal. You’d do a short Prologue, where Locke assembles the team (Avengers asse- Just kidding)
They prepare the gear and head for Sanghelios and meet with the arbiter, thus bridging the H2A cutscenes we saw.
After that, it switches to Chief and his whereabouts.
It’s kinda how i imagine i’d be like, but heck OP, yours aint half bad!
I fully expect us to start off as Locke in the midst of his hunt for chief it’d be great if the whereabouts and actions Of chief are discovered by Locke’s Batman skillz then we assume control of chief and get his pov. I also wouldn’t mind playing as the Arbiter in the opening

Thanks for the compliment and also for reminding me that I still need to go see Age of Ultron
It really depends how they are going to tell the story, and how sections between Locke and Chief are divided. Besides how we don’t even know at what time the game starts. Do we see anything about Chief before he goes missing, for example? Are we kept in the dark about Chief’s motivations before Locke finds him? For majority the last touch with the story was ending of Halo 4. That ending left suprisingly few indications on where story would go next.
-No sign of Blue Team
-Didact fell through a portal
-Chief is back on Earth, but no signs indicating that he’s going AWOL
-No mention of Locke, or spartans in his fireteam
-No indication on colony worlds being under attack, or what party could be responsibe (Didact was defeated according to players best knowledge)
They also need to introduce Sanghelios as a location, and reintroduce Arbiter plus his current position in the universe.
