After I get matched against players way out of my league (I’m a level 14 with a AS playlist rank of Diamond 1 going up against level 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s. What the actual -Blam!- is going on here?) in just about every match I play now, I can’t help but notice how “loose” the aiming in this game is. I feel like I’m playing a FPS on a PC while using an Xbox controller.
My aim is all over the place (especially with the magnum) and I’m unable to kill the much higher ranked players that I’m pitted against and are more aquainted to this game’s aiming than I am. This is coming from someone who has been playing Halo games for 13 years now since 2002, and who is generally good at Halo games (stat junkies, feel free to take a look at the stats of every Halo game my gamertag is affiliated with).
This horrible aiming combined with facing much higher leveled opponents, no map rotation, piss-poor radar, and no good symmetrical maps to speak of are making this to be one of the worst Halo multiplayer experiences I’ve ever had. Fifteen horrible and frustrating Arena Slayer matches in a row has taken it’s toll, and I’m already playing other games including the MCC (which is still -Blam!-ing broken, but a breath of fresh air from Halo 5 when it does work) while Halo 5 collects dust in the corner. It’s not like I can just go play custom games or forge… because Forge is MIA and custom games might as well be MIA.
I’m a bit amused, as this is a contender for my favorite Halo multiplayer yet. The aiming is something you have to practice on, I play with default sensitivity so i’m not sure if you’re playing on a higher level or not. I don’t have any issues getting kills/headshots. Try practicing in warzone first where you can kind of get used to things.
There is minimal aim assist in this game. My suggestion is turn down your sensitivity more if it feels like you are “going all over the place” with your shots. Once you get used to it you won’t even notice the lack of aim assist.
Just so you know, the spartan ranks (“going up against level 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s.”) Doesnt matter, a noob could have those ranks just from getting xp. Its the CSR rating/ranking that matters, such as Diamond or Onyx
I used to be quite good. Now completely average. It’s also because the maps are so vertical. Now in warzone, especially the map with the spire, if you are in a one on one on the ground, you’re also getting shot by 6 people up top. It never used to be like that. I just get like 10 kills a game and 15 assists. I start hitting people and then bam, my teammates up top somewhere take him out.

Has changing the sensitivity helped or nah? If not then yeah I’ve no idea…
Ignore these guys. There is both aim assist and bullet magnetism in the game, just much less than Halo 4
However, 343 have changed the aiming significantly. For example, if you spin your right stick in a circle, the reticle will move in a square. It feels to me like the overall sensitivity has been reduced but aim acceleration has been dramatically increased (you reticle moves slow at first and then moves very fast). Also, there may be some weird aiming with diagonal movements
You just need to learn to aim better. Games these days like Destiny, CoD, BF or H4/H2A have huge aim assist, so if you played any of them a lot lately you are going to have a problem in H5.
i have felt the aimming is kind of odd and annoying at some points where i aim at enemy players and its like its beign pushed off of them. not going to just and say they are hacking and go all conspiracy but i think the aimming might be off in this game. might be the acceleration or magnetism affecting it.

this person just said exactly what I was going to say. If you don’t believe us go put your settings down to 1 and go play a custom game to see for yourself. It’s VERY small, but the assist is there. The magnetism on the other hand in my mind is insane! I feel like I hit a lot of my -Yoink- that I should have missed.

You must have some sort of drunk controller or something because when I do the ogre twitch it goes in a circle not a square lol
This game has aim assist and magnetism. It’s low thought… it better be low. The problem you are having is related to the aim acceliration and deadzones. So when you’re in the heat of a fight… you’re probably stress and press to hard on the sticks… the accelirations makes you aming the whole level except your target…

Halo has always had lots of verticality in its maps. This is nothing new.
