I hopped on the Halo bandwagon around the end of the Halo 2 era, and with my time playing Halo, I feel that the franchise has slowly begun to make players feel rewarded for the simplest things and allowing too many handicapped opportunities in matchmaking.
Allow me to explain: (Share your opinions on if you are pro or con)
1a. Radar: The radar now stretches much farther than the previous games
Automatic weapons have a much harder time playing against long range weapons even in CQC.
1b. Radar: The radar shows whether the enemy is above or below you
2a. Weapons: Halo 3 was composed of many weapons that contained bullet travel, however, Halo 4 seems very much like a party of laser tag.
3a. Medals: I get rewarded for walking 5 steps, then another for jumping, and yet another for breathing.
It is a small list, but these IMO are huge factors.
All I have to do is look at my friends list. All but one has a positive halo 4 k/d with 8 out of 10 above 1.5. In halo 3 and reach, only 3 had above 1.1 out of 10.
Then you have my nephews, both below .5 in halo 3 and reach. Yet they are sitting between 1.1 and 1.2 in halo 4.
But it’s no surprise, make a game easier, more will at least give it a try.
In simple words yes. 343i has stated that the game was catered to less skilled gamers. They were trying to close the SKILL gap so everyone could have a chance to get power weapons and get some easy kills. Its sad but true. Best thing we can do now is play some Legendary slayer and wait for Halo 5 and see what that brings.

that being worse than what we got is highly debateable…
Yes, it’s plain to see that the Halo series has become more casual. But looking at the gaming industry as a whole. It appears that is happening to all games.
yeah it is becoming alot easier, i rented this game called remember me because it was new, i beat it in 2 days on the hardest difficulty. most games now days done have learning curves anymore, the new generation of gamers are spoiled rotten brats that dont give custructive feedback most of the time. im glad 343 is reading the good feedback for the better.
While the idea of making Halo more new user friendly is in theory good, it really backfired for the community; I think the daily player numbers are proof of that. The medal extravaganza really annoys me, especially considering they took away some of the really cool ones, like Splatter Spree and Sunday Driver and included ridiculous medals like Comeback Kill and the Generic Kill.

generic kill and distraction really have no business existing.medals used to mean something and now it looks like you will get one for jumping in halo 5.
i really hope they dont for lack of a better term, dumb down the game anymore. i am hoping the way the fans reacted to all this will push 343 toward a better more old fashioned halo.
I agree with everything thats been said thus far. The game is really easy. I’ve carried my fair share of teammates in Halo 3 and Reach but in Halo 4 it seems like even the ‘good’ players aren’t even a worthy competitor.
I feel like the more casual elements of the game that were meant to help new players only backfired because when a good players gets a hold of the stuff they become an indestructible force.
For example: Yeah sure a new player can use camo + boltshot to get an easy kill but once a good player gets killed by that cheap mechanic a few times they know to look out for it and will retaliate with the force of a thousands suns of destruction. Skilled players find out how to avoid the nonsense and utilize the ‘casual’ features of the game to really do damage.
I can’t tell you how many players have raged quit from my lobbies, even more than I saw in Halo 3 and Reach.

Amen to that. I have been playing Halo 3 a lot recently, since I have been in a CLASSIC game mood as of late, and I had a great round where everyone except one guy quit on my team and he and I destroyed a full 5 man team on Construct. it was the most satisfying feeling you could have in Halo. A few days later I jumped into Halo 4 and was watching some of the clips I had saved from months ago and I have 3 titled “Perfection”. When was the last time you have heard about that!? Someone having multiple perfections within a few days? With all of the casual tryouts in Halo 4 getting the hardest commendation isn’t even a challenge anymore. You go and see kids playing Halo 4 and they are screaming about “someone took my kill!” or my personal favorite “you took my freaking ordnance!!!”, and then you drop into a round of Team BR’s on the Pit in Halo 3 and you hear people using callouts and using groupshot strategies or using Powerweapons as bait. What has happened to Halo? Does anyone remember when H4 was the second most played game on the 360? Has Halo gotten the cancer that modern games seem to get now-a-days? Please 343, take a step back and look at each individual elements that made each Halo game great.
Halo CE- Great storyline
Halo 2- Amazing multiplayer
Halo 3- Interactive maps and Ranking
Halo Reach- Forge World and more community creativity
Halo 4-???
My only hopes at this point are that 343 has an ace up their sleeve that will get Matchmaking back to 50k or that Halo 3 will be the next free game on the marketplace so that its servers will cap 50k.
The cream rises to the top, from CE to Halo 4. Settings may change, but dedication, practice and situational awareness are still the hallmark of the best players and result in success.

I cannot argue with that. The principals of Halo multiplayer are still there, but fewer and fewer people use them. Is it sad that I have less than 1,000 wins in matchmaking in Halo 4, but almost 400 in Halo 3 which I just started playing again almost a week ago? I didn’t even Play Halo 3 for the first time until a few months before Halo 4 came out and when I go back to it I rack up win after win and find myself having a better time. Why? Because more people are polite and actually help you, sure there is your share of -Yoinks!- and little kids, but there are even people who will message me with “Good game” at the end of a round, even when they may be pissed off that they lost by 1 point. Don’t get me wrong, Halo 4 was a good game, it just wasn’t a good HALO game.

agreed. I don’t like a lot of things in Reach and Halo 4 but in no way has my performance or skill factor gotten worse. I just always hope for a more traditional Halo to come back since I favor that gameplay more.
> Halo hasn’t ever felt like it requires skill tbh
In a way it doesn’t, but in some cases it does. It doesn’t require that you be good at the game to have a good time. Even if you are bad at the game you can still have fun putting a nice, spartan sized dent into your warthog. But when you get into rounds where you are playing against high ranked people you do kind of need some communication and skill. Halo use to have a great balance of skill and casual manslaughter. Not so much now…

You forgot the part where they might have actually gotten better at Halo. In order to go positive, someone must go negative.
POs exist to give each player a chance to use a power weapon without having to fight others over it. Perks can serve as crutches for a player’s weaknesses. AAs give players an “element of surprise” to use whenever they need an edge, because the other players never know what AA you have until you use it.
