Im not complaning or anything im just curious.

It’s a one shot kill, if it took any shorter to charge up it would be OP.
It does take a long time to charge, but that’s because it’s supposed to be a one hit kill. The problem is, it doesn’t kill in one hit most of the time like it should. They need to make it work like it should or reduce the charge time. Either one would work.

Yeah ive noticed that too it make the lazer a bit useless

Ummm…I took a Spartan laser to the face…and lived…One shot on vehicles maybe…miss the halo 3 Spartan laser, it actually killed people; not pop their shields and call it a day.
It still is a one hit kill weapon. They’ve changed it a little bit from Halo 3 so that now you have to keep the laser on the target (most likely vehicle) a bit longer than before. In H3, the laser worked more like a sniper rifle in how it dealt damage. Think of using it like the old sentinel beam. That should help.
It should take 4 seconds to charge not 5, by the time you hear most vehicles, they are already past you by the time its ready to fire.

Was it OP in Reach?
If you’ve had problems getting a kill with it then you must be doing it wrong.
With the range of the weapon you want to stay hidden… and yes you can stay hidden as you can use the first few seconds of charge on something nearby like a rock so they don’t notice a giant beam until the final second and BOOM!
lol no. Personally I use it as a primary sometimes to shoot people when I get the chance. Otherwise shooting vehicles with Spartan Laser is a piece of cake. Simply don’t charge your laser when a vehicle is driving directly towards you, then you’ll be fine.
I don’t think it takes that long to charge, but it is annoying when you miss and he ends up killing you.
I’m cool with the SL. It’s powerful weapon so a longish charge feels necessary. Aim isn’t terribly accurate either so it itsnt OP in my mind.
To a point made earlier, this is the first Halo where I have noticed grazing SL shots to vehicles do not automatically guarantee a kill. I’m okay with this in Halo 4, especially because of how easy it is to disable/destroy vehicles.
If anything, the target laser is invisible, which makes it incredibly difficult to avoid.
everything else about it is working fine.
I think it’s fine the way it is.
There are one shot kill weapons for vehicles and Spartans. One of them is Spartan Laser and the other is Rail Gun. They’re both similar yet used for different things. So the Spartan Laser isn’t really slow, but it means it’s balanced for vehicles to react to the laser charge time. It can take out most vehicles in one hit, so yeah, it needs a decent charge time. If you’re trying to use it on the Spartans, don’t do it. It’s waste of a shot, and just use the rail gun for that job instead.

Like every ordinance gun is a one shot kill!
Look, it’s got a freaking long charge time, and then a seemingly longer cooldown time.
I think the only change it needs is that it’ll one shot you no matter what. I’ve been clipped and clipped plenty of people with it only to have a shield popped.
Personally, I think the charge time is fine. I would bump up the damage to at least Reach status if not Halo 3 status. The balance here (because they nor anyone else wants the laser to be anti-armor as well as anti-personal) is that it is much easier to see when a laser is targeting you than it was in Halo 3, which in my opinion is what made it so good in Halo 3. By the time you saw the laser on you, it was charged and ready to fire.
