Does the Game Consider the Stalker Rifle a Sniper?

I just completed a BtB game where I used the Stalker Rifle all game long, and it gave me a Sharpshooter medal. I never picked up a Sniper Rifle.

Edit: Completed another match where I earned a Sharpshooter using the Shock Rifle.
